I know I don't come here very often these days thanks to certain individuals, but I thought that I would post this as it may be of interest to others. Therefore admin, If this is the wrong place to put this, then please feel free to delete, and accept my apologies.

For the past couple of months my firm has been running a prize draw a the various events we are attending, with the draw to take place after the Brighton bash in mid September.

I have managed to convince the powers that be to open up the draw to the wider biking public as not everyone can get to or wants to go to an event.

First prize is £2000 worth of riding kit from a dealer of your choice.

Second prize is a VIP track day at Silverstone using the full GP circuit and includes accomodation and meals

Third prize is an ipad.

It costs nothing to enter, all you need to do is send an email to [email protected] and ask for your name to be entered into the draw.

Friends, family and clubs and organisations are also free to enter.

I also assure you that your details will not be sold to a third party and you will not get bombarded with spam mail. This is for us very much about brand and product awareness, and if anyone does get spam mail, then let me know and I will kick some butt.

We do not deal with the minor or less serious injury cases, and so it would defeat the object of sending out such spam mails, hence the reason I said, if it happens, then let me know and I will kick some butt.

On top of which we neither have the time or the inclination as we know that nothing p1sses people off more than junk mail or calls. That is not how you build brand and product awareness.

I wonder if anyone actually won, or if TC was just spamming and collecting new addresses for the spam list?

Any firm of solicitors worth their salt has no need to bother with spamming.

afaik T.C isn't Lionel Hutz (Mr Borg might want to dispute this but that's another thread!) so there'd be more profitable ways to spend his time than collecting e-mail addresses on BCF.

Not remotely, and I have no idea where you'd get that impression.

It's the freetard effect, there are some mechanics on here which offer their services more of a hobby than a business. There are some individuals who expect the earth for very little money or even free. This happens in real life too.

This even happened to me a few years back, I offered to help a fellow group rider with some simple repairs. I get an inbox full of low post users who ask me if I can help, and just so happen plea poverty in being able to pay.

Similarly when people know you can do something they want you to do it because you won't ask for money, relatives are worst https://theoatmeal.com/comics/computers

You say no and the abuse starts because somehow it is their fault, for not helping them. Something akin to agressive beggars who lay blame on you for not helping them, you can avoid them (like TC) or shove them away (dangerous in UK due to risk of being sued).

Really? You must be referencing some species of wad I've yet to encounter. Or maybe my "NO!" projects some kind of menace I'm unaware of. Laughing

It depends what your motivation is, in 2005-2009 my motivation was building the BCF north group. As Stew hadn't organised a ride for years, even Korn asked me to stir up some meets in the north. As such you need to put some sort of hook to grab riders.

If you get turds you throw them back, if you meet genuine people then your group has grown and may become something. While the BCF north group grew to a fair size over time what we don't mention is that we caught a LOT of turds in building our group.

Andy C for instance complains about the lack of rides, I have given consideration to reforming the northern group. I think back though to what it took and the users who want you to fix something and I think sack that.

So right now I'm just joining established groups as an occasional rider 60 miles to ride to get to the start point though.
