https://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=271486133642

I'm on the market for a CBR600RR. This one caught my eye as the price is pretty good for the mileage, extras and apparent condition.

Wondering if this as belongs to anyone here? Or what your first impressions of this particular bike. Any tell tale signs of dodginess I should be wary of before I approach the seller?

As usual thanks in advance for the advise and abuse.

Ash

That price is average based on completed sales. You'll be hard pressed to find a CBR that hasn't had at least some of the parts catalogue thrown at it. Eye roll at the "custom painted" white parts, such a hard colour to find.

The tyres are for novelty purposes only, the downpipes are messy, and the chain is either gold lubed or rusty. You could be looking at £500+ needing spent on that in short order.

Other than that, the obvious warning sign is that the seller may be a professional angry man and/or jeb end. "beloved bike [...] moaning girlfriend [...] no stupid offers or time wasters [...] first to see will buy". Sleeping

I'd have a look, but don't jump at it. It could be being punted on because the "moaning girlfriend" has just heard what it needs done to it. You'll definitely want to see the advisories on the MOT.

paintwork doesn't seem to have a shine, looks like a bad cover up job to me.

It would probably be okay but there are better bikes for the money.

Blued rear disc, blued front discs, squared-off rear tyre, filler dust on the clocks and front tyre, rusted chain with tight links and a bad sprayjob.

It's a stuntmongrel's abuse-wagon.

There's better examples on ebay for around the same price. Example.

The linked CBR6 doesn't look like it's in good enough condition to be priced at £3k, for the reasons people have already pointed out above.

Out of interest what does it mean when they put "first to see will buy" on the ad?

To me it looks like they're saying, "First to have a gander aint leaving without taking the thing, or i'm keeping their kneecaps".. Embarassed Shocked Confused

Laughing I think they're leaning more towards, that who ever views the bike first will be satisfied enough to buy the bike.

I might go and have a look at it then just walk away without buying it. Would take a good look over my shoulder as I exited though.

I sold mine in superb condition to Wave for £1800. Think the only main issue was the clocks had been changed, reckon it was much lower mileage than they stated.

It means that they value the bike a lot more than you will.

I've never bothered to even view a bike owned by anyone who has put that in an ad, or indeed "Very reluctant sale", "pride and joy", "no silly offers", or the (always effective Rolling Eyes) "NO TIME WASTERS!!!!!!!"

I've probably passed on some decent bikes, but I've certainly avoided the company of a bunch of Frank Rottweilers.

People

Many thanks for your frank input. I'm glad I posted this up prior to calling the seller. I completely missed the paint work issue and the rusty downpipes.

Seems buying a used bike is harder that buying a car! Another one averted!

Az, thanks for the link. gorgeous looker, will keep an eye on it and perhaps make a follow up call soon.

Looks shit and unloved - walk away.

Don't get the first shit-box you see. If you are not desperate, these go for less at the end of the season once wobbly Derek puts the bike away as the temp has dropped below 25.

If not, then that price will see you get a decent example, to which this isn't.

Mid fairing finish does not match the tank for a start.
Closer to matt from the look of it.

Looks sus, I would suggest go check it out in person or carry on looking Confused

I know it's not a CBR, but what are your thoughts on this?
