You need to fit a backing plate to the inside of the top box to strengthen it, if you dont it destroys the lid as we found out.

Those are expensive for what they are. Just use the grill from your oven or something...you'll figure out the specifics of it

Yuk! To me, all those boxes and racks are hideous. All luggage is like growths for bikes in my eyes. I can understand the 'function', and appreciate most have no choice, but it wouldn't trump the 'form' for me.
If I need to transport more than either a wallet and a phone, or at most, the contents of a small back pack... Then its a courier or a cage trip.

That rules out commuting (chain) and touring then, about 80% of my mileage.

Had one on most of my Goldwings.

I found it really useful for light objects like sleeping bags to bungee to.

Here on a 1200 wing I had.

I certainly wouldn't load it with much weight mind.

What about people who commute? I like having a back box on my bike, it gives you somewhere to put your jacket and helmet once you stop. It just makes the bike so much more practical for every day use.

I'd never been a fan of top boxes but now I wouldnt be without mine. No longer need to carry my lid around with me when I lock the bike up in town or attach it to the bike lock in the pissing rain. Can carry the spare radios needed for work and, as I have found out, holds a good amount of alcohol.

I've managed to get a good couple of weeks shopping for the family with the top box, tank bag, rucksack and cargo net over the back seat.

If needed, I usually find a desk/sofa/water machine or friends car to stuff my gear behind/in. After my 'off', I always wear my full gear, so mx boots would need a pannier each lol if I was to leave them with the bike.
I did commute on a bike for 2 years, still managed it with a rucksack although i seen to recall trying a tank bag which I would put any slightly heavier items in.

As well as the asthetic appeal, for me, my bike is about leaving lifes things behind, (or in the wife's car). My idea of touring would be with nothing more than my phone, some tissues and a load of money = hotels, resturants and new pants every night, (or sleeping ruff and hungry until I find these)

The thought of carrying any great weight around on a bike just sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
I suppose a top box full of beer on a bike with a full rearward fuel tank might be fun on the way home, but I still think i'd rather the beers be waiting in the fridge already.

My Vara top box was the best part of it, I'd probably have gone for one of those racks as sometimes the soft light stuff took up valuable space.

Now that I have the SV, I don't even have room for a tax disc Laughing

Now picturing attaching another top box on top of the top box rack... Thinking

I suspect that the main use is to provide bungie attachment points, so a bunch of eye bolts (properly washered on the inside) would likely do much the same job.

It's the sort of thing I'd ghetto on, but only if the pillion seat was already full.

I need a fridge like yours then if beer magics itself into there. Sadly I have to take myself to the shop to buy beer, like most people. I also have no car so I use my bike. Wink

I find the fridge comes with wife (and/or girlfriend). Six bottles of cider magically appeared in mine last night. Although I was told I'd have to share.
Also mine also seems to stock fridge with salad Very Happy

My large Givi box is rated for 3kg, what the fuck could they imagine you carrying on a rack that combined with whats in the box weighs less than 3KG. Laughing

I have had (lots) more in the box however I have had to strengthen the clips with metal after they both cracked. Laughing

oddly enough my Yami OEM rack states no more than 5KG max weight and the box weighs around that. I've had lots more in mine too. No issues.

Box is ok for more, Ive had over 30kg in mine. However the lids are weak, good idea to reinforce/replace the hinges as I can imagine the lid ripping off at speed with any weight on it.

SliMC Id rather ride a bike with a box all the time, than need a car for the odd trip. I do take it off for a high speed run... box seems to limit me to an indicated 146 Mad Bikes are not all about looks, which is good thing becuase I look like a cunt Laughing

One thing I do need to transport is a pair of forks, have not worked out how to safely strap them onto bike, so waiting for a family car to make the journey Crying or Very sad

What bike? I strapped crutches to my bike and have previously carried a tv and a small cupboard...

Wrap forks in bin bags, strap down either straight across or have them aiming towards the back, bungees and gaffer.

Protect the ends with cardboard or something and strap upright to the top box with bungies/cargo rack cable ties and duct tape with the cardboard protected ends resting on the pillion seat.

I'm tempted to see if I can get my golf bats on the bike that way. Laughing

Yes. My fridge automatically 3D prints groceries, beer and milk directly onto its shelves. State of the art custom built food fabricator of my own design. Thumbs Up

Either that, or wife puts it there Wink
