Road fund/ Tax grr

Bike just passed its MOT (yay!) so went on line to tax it, when i was applying it gave me the option of the tax starting on the 1st of May, or the 1st of June - being that its the 30th May, i went for 1st of June

the disk will take upto 5 days to arrive

so technically cant I use the bike until monday, or actually friday when the disk will arrive?

im i liable to be done by the fuzz if i do ride it?

You can ride it on the 1st. You get a few days grace I believe... but unsure if that is in relation to it being taxed prior to buying a new tax disc.

Personally, I'd ride it. My tax is currently sitting on my bed and my SV is with me outside at work...

You can't use it until the 1st.
You should be fine after that; the police can check the DVLA records, plus since 1st September 2008 you've been allowed 5 days after online purchase to start displaying it.

And my number plate isn't legal.

And I have a non legal tinted visor.

And I ride in France without stupid stickers on my lid.

And the grace period is back up to 14 days from taxing online.

My bike tax (displayed) lapsed in Feb.

I have a tax disk that is current until Feb 15.

I can't be arsed to put the current one on. In October the requirement to display will be removed. If I get caught, I doubt that they will be able to get me in court much before October.

What do you think the chances are that they will bother, bearing in mind that magistrates will be pissed off with having to deal with what is a 'technical' breach of the law?

I thought it was a £200 fine for not displaying a tax disc, haven't got one displayed currently as it was meant to be in the post from the hire company but hasn't turned up (dunno if that means a copper could/would still fine me).

Also a bit off topic/hijack but my Yamaha's currently showing as sorn'd after I returned the tax disc but I've not had any letters/monies back (& its been a month). How long does it take?

I've overtaken a Volvo traffic car on a country road and sat in front of him for at least a minute with expired tax. Obviously, I'd never intentionally do such a retarded thing, it was a renewal date mix-up. I somehow got away with that... as well as riding the bike everywhere, every day, for three whole weeks untaxed...

So I wouldn't feel too bad at all about it being taxed but not showing a tax disc. A lot of bikers don't display the tax disc anyway in case of theft.

The minute you have paid for your new tax you are legal to ride your bike. You can't get done for not displaying the disc as you are in the 'grace' period. Your bike will be on the anpr system as taxed as it shows up the minute you purchase the tax, have a nice ride
