Hi

Stripped the CBR a few days ago and encountered this container which looks more like it belongs on a Massy Ferguson than a CBR, it was hosed up to the fuel pump and had two outlets that had nothing attached, first guess is a overflow catch tank? It was situated down by the rear wheel beneath the swing arm.

Thinking its non-essential deadweight and was going to try to run the bike without it but just checking what exactly it is first. (note the Bike is an Italian import so is it perhaps something to do with euro regs at the time? can't seem to see anything on goggle images on UK bikes like it and nobody I know has a clue either).

Probably something similar to the charcoal canisters they fit to emissions spec BMs.

It catches overflow from the tank, then eventually gets vacuumed back up the line; on the BMs it also sucks up charcoal particles and clogs up the filters, so most people chuck them away.

If all yours had was an inlet and no return or vent, then it probably isn't doing much, so I would bin it.

Thanks Karma

Probably should have mentioned that it does smell like our house boiler with a trace of stale petrol, shan't be binned but donated to a friend looking for a fuel tank on his rat since it seem unnecessary.

Sounds like the pump may have been swapped at some time...what does it look like? You should also have a small plastic "Sub Air Filter" for emission nonsense. If you do, check the element as they turn to dust after a while.

I'll get a pic of it tomorrow, don't know if its the original pump but it certainly has been tampered with in the past as it has been wired directly to the ignition (spins constantly with ignition turned only going off when the bikes running which will require some work to rectify).

I can see me having to carry a spare battery in a back pack when using this bike, so much drain it on it from just turning the key (permanent lights and fuel pump) and I hear the alternators aren't too hot on them either..... Rolling Eyes
