In fairness, the picture was misleading. According to the article, he was doing it in a locked hotel room. The people who "caught him in the act" were cleaners who used a master key to get in.

If I was on the vinegar strokes (I'm not into bicycles but whatever floats his boat), I would ignore a knock on the door too.

I would say whatever deviancy he is into is his own business if he does it behind closed doors, which, if the article is accurate, he clearly did. I think he should feel rightly aggreived at the treatment he has received at the hands of the hotel and the law.

If a cleaner let themselves into my hotel room while I was on the job, I would be pissed off but if it happened, I would hope they would discreetly close the door and say no more about it. I would not expect to be hauled up in court for comitting a sex offence.

There should be a law that if a person is comitting an act that would be otherwise legal unless observed by a third party, having taken reasonably precautions to ensure you are not observed is a valid defence.

Shagging a bicycle in a locked room should not be grounds for a prosecution of any sort in my oppinion.

It's a mystery how old stories like that suddenly flare up to most popular again.
Considering he was in his own room and a cleaner barged in it seems a bit surprising it ever went so far. Rolling Eyes

They are probably happily married now.

Aside from the fact he was shagging a bike; it was a locked bedroom that presumably he was paying for, surely he could expect a degree of privacy? It's not like he was round the back of the local cop-shop molesting the community officer's sit-up-and-beg...

And he got put on the sex offenders register!? What's next 'Teenager gets 6 months for raping a sock'... ffs.

Bloke shagging push bike behind a closed and locked door in the privacy of his room.
Cleaners knock on the door.
Bloke doesn't answer
Cleaners use master key and open door
Cleaners see bloke shagging push bike in his room.
Cleaners phone the popo.
Bloke gets placed on the sex offenders register for shagging a bike behind a closed and locked door in the privacy of his room.

So, if you can't shag a push bike behind a closed and locked door in the privacy of your own room without getting on the "Peado List" where can you shag a push bike?

What's the actual offence here?

What harm was caused?

And what you should really be thinking of, is where exactly do inanimate objects lay in the eyes of the law? What's the difference between a bike, a dildo, the exhaust of a range rover or a fleshlight?

Exactly, you would not put a woman in custody if she was pleasing her with a dildo (or a man... maybe?). Seems ridiculous.

Maybe there was something more that he may have done.

knocked repeatedly [...] paused only to ask, "What is it, hen?", before continuing to "move his hips back and forth"

As I read it, the bicycle isn't really that relevant, it's that he was tackle-out and waiting for the cleaners to "catch him".

That does sound like he was targeting them, so victims, so crime. If that wasn't his intention, he was given several opportunities to prevent them entering.

Three years on probation does sound extreme, but wait...

and for a separate breach of the peace charge for threatening a member of staff in a hostel in the town.

Why, it's almost as though most news outlets just reported selectively to make the legalities seem more provocatively baffling than they were. How unuuuusual.

That was his mistake right there. Scotland, so should have been in a kilt.
