Bikers dying in droves

Why are so many bikers dying at the moment? We've had a few sunny weekends before now so it's not like it's the 'start of the season'.

More bikers were killed last month in Gloucestershire (on roads I ride regularly) than in the whole of 2012 and 2013 (sauce) and there was a big 5 bike pile up in Wales at the weekend that left two more dead.

Why is this happening? Personally I haven't seen any dickish riding recently, either on rides or at meets.

Quite a few people have hibernated through the winter and only come out on the few sunny weekends we have, it's bound to make you a bit more excitable added to a bit of rustiness.

Saw a rider being tended to by paramedics on my ride home last night. Could see his arms waving around so hopefully not a bad fall. This was in Stamford Hill which is notorious for drivers in a mad rush and utter disregard for other other road users.

There was one on the webyesterday about a car hitting a group of stationary bikes and riders, killing several, injuring more.

The thing that wound me up about it (justifiably or not), was the fact that the bikers were referred to as a PACK of biker.

There are plenty of car crashes going every day. I think the press in general make a big thing about bike crashes mainly because the chances of being injured or killed are higher than crashing in a car and the injuries caused when crashing on a bike... but most car drivers claim whiplash for a couple of quid even if their ok

We all know the dangers, an accident can be only round the corner one day for anyone no matter how good a rider they are, that's self education and something i thought about when i first sat on a seat but i chose to take the risk.

That's from someone still new to biking anyway.

I was out all day on Saturday and it was a good ride.

But in the last 5 miles or so of my journey home I had so many situations with people driving like idiots I was glad to get the bike put away.
