Tell me something, if you've got that well known road, corner, why do people still crash there? Thinking

Seems the bike took most of the brunt and practically stopped the car before he slid under it, very lucky indeed.

What was the cause of the lowside in this case, or in general? The slomo at the end suggested his rear wheel went over something. Damp patch of tarmac? oil? Random occurrence of tyre losing its affinity with the road?

According to the video there's a dip in the road, not sure how much that would affect him loosing control of the bike though.

I'm not sure but there are a lot of crashes there due to highside/lowside which suggests the tarmac isn't particularly great... it's quite dusty there I think and there is a bit of dirt just round the corner where everyone parks up, dragging dust and crap back onto the road when they pull out.

Most of the crashes at Mulholland according to the guy who posts most of the videos are caused by showboating gone wrong, people who are inexperienced on their bikes with general poor obs and don't know the road well enough for the speed they're attempting.

Then there are the few rare examples of target fixation like when one guy stood his bike upright and ploughed into the back of two bicycles on his way out the corner

I probably phrased that wrong, a minor dip in the road* as I couldn't see one on the video obviously a larger one would.

There's a chap my daughter watches who plays Minecraft, Stampylonghead or something like that, he makes approx £200k per month according to one report or another. £200k per month, for playing Minecraft! Amazing. What a life.

On the bike thing, lucky guy! I did lol at the troll comment blaming the car driver Smile

Are all his videos in the same placeish on Mullholland? It's a long road isn't it? I take it it's a popular rode for riding, should have paid a visit.

Very long, 50 miles or so. This particular section is part of "The Snake" which is 2 miles long and that final left hand corner going uphill is where the majority seem to stack it.

The speed limit is only 45mph but apparently most can only manage to corner at 30.

Looks like at the point of collision, the car had left the road itself.

No doubt the driver tried to avoid the sliding rider by turning off the road, if he had maintained his normal course maybe he wouldn't have hit him at all?

Same point as the guy commenting on Youtube. Impossible to call when a bike comes flying at you out of the blue and you have to make a decision, natural instinct is to move away rather than to try and calculate his trajectory and wonder where he'll end up.

My theory is that if 'murcans have to lean the bike for more than two seconds, they start to think.

Totally agree, not blaming the driver at all. Fuck knows how I'd react in such a situation, most likely in exactly the same way. Good that matey got out okay tho.

Yeah but you got to really make an instantaneous decision on how to avoid them, pause to work out where to go and you're probably more likely to hit them that way.

Good job for the driver that the rider was okay, can't imagine it'd be particularly pleasant having someone severely injured, or worse, trapped under your car through no fault of your own.
