So did mine, it's because you're used to a upright position on a bandit.

I'm guessing it was a fairly new Gsxr?

You "mostly" get used to it.

Been riding a CBR600 daily for several years and I still get aches after a long ride.

Also depends on body shape I think, stick insects seem to be comfortable on most things whilst the more rotund gentleman might tend towards a cruiser.

In short - if you're a fat bastard, get a cruiser. Maybe a harley.

I know what you mean, I sat on a mate's R1 the other day... he offered me a bimble but I politely declined. Just sitting on the thing was intimidating, feeling all scrunched up. He swore blind its a comfortable commuter...

I imagine once you got the bug though nothing else feels the same.

I had a go on Fifteen15's gsxr the other week and it felt kind of right to me. It's the first sport 600 I've been on - and although it was only for a few miles it felt fairly comfy. I'd probably go for a hornet over one of those, for the more upright position, but I reckon I could hack a 600 wiv clip ons, despite my advancing years.

Well done for consistently buying and owning sports bikes for 14years!

How you stayed interested/motivated by them for that long is another question?

At work yesterday I walked past a bike parking area in B'ham city centre, and I saw a brand new Black GSXR600. (These new shape ones look very tiny, very plasticy and very ugly IMO).

Next to it was a tatty 1984/B-plate Honda VF750 Magna, painted matt black with white skulls on the petrol tank, and red cam covers.

I'm not really a huge fan of the rat look, or untidy neglected bikes, but with a bit of cash spent, I know which one of the two machines would look cool and interesting, and it wouldn't have Suzuki written on the side! Laughing

My K1 is much more comfortable than my Srad and I'm 6'5 and Fat so a 6ft'er should be fine On most sports bikes.

My old GSXR 600 L0 was like a child's toy and not that much bigger than my monkeybike really.

Nope.
There are plenty of bikes out there, similar riding style to the Bandit, and then there are some brilliant armchair bikes to take you into older age (with crook skeletons). I currently own and ride my own brand of armchair and I love it. Gone are the days of cramping myself up to fit on a small faux sports bike. Cool

Wait.. you ride a Varadero 125 (assuming you've only got your CBT or A1 license) and your mate offered you a ride on an R1.. he must have a lot of trust in you lol

There's the problem. Modern 600 sports bikes are tiiiiny. The GSXR750 is the same size as the 600 I believe, just a bigger cc engine.

After a while you'd get used to it, but you'd need to pick a bike wisely. I have a varadero 125 as I'm 6' 4" - looking in the triumph dealer even the street triples look tiny next to it, and it's not an especially large bike!

Just to reiterate really, the early supersports are like sofas compared to modern bikes. I had a test ride on an 07 R6 but it made my back and arms ache like fuck, so decided against it. Maybe I could have got used to it, but it didn't feel right and I didn't want to chance it.

I could ride my CBR600F sat up if you wanted to, but I could change my position to stop getting aches and pains.

I thought this when I was in a Yamaha garage a few weeks ago. They had an R125, R6 and R1 all in a line and the 125 was tallest!

When I picked my SRAD 750 up (not sure how the position is compared to other bikes) from Hull I did about 70 miles or so on it. I had to lay down for 30 mins afterwards! "I'm never going to Scotland on this thing"...

I did, the ride gets much easier once you're used to it, I commute on it.

i think the bike i tried was a gsxr600 53' plate?

so i don't know how much they have changed (if they have in later models)

the bike seemed short

i think i need to take it on a longer test ride.....
