Surely this can't be all the winners get for winning each TT race can it?!?

Footballers are earning that as a goal bonus ffs!

There's more money involved in football plain and simple.

It is largely an amateur event. The top riders get sponsorship most of the riders are out of pocket.

It just goes to show most do it for the thrill/experience as you can win more down at the local bingo hall.

If you're doing it for the money, there are much better options!

In the end, there's not THAT much money in it - if there was enough for big prize pots, it'd likely be much better to spend that money elsewhere.

Classic, innit. A bunch of whiney faggots are paid millions while warriors with balls of steel get peanuts. I wonder if it has anything to do with the majority of the population consisting of whiney faggot cretins.

Probably more to do with the TT being a minority interest event, within a minority interest pastime.

From a marketing point of view, the TT should be the classic 'race on Sunday, sell on Monday' proposition, but these days the manufacturers won't take the risk of being the headline sponsor, because they don't want to take the chance that somebody gets killed on a full factory bike, in a race that at best doesn't mean much, at worst is highly controversial.

If you do well and win a couple of races it's still a normal persons annual salary for a couple of hours fun riding bikes.

I don't think football players get paid for playing for England in international matches at all.

They do get paid and quite substantially, but they tend to donate it to related charities these days.

Yeah an agreement is in place that the appearance fees go to charity so it is basically unpaid charity work.
Although I expect they still benefit massively from personal sponsorship and what not out of it.

Oh I did not realise it was that easy, maybe the TT riders are just milking it.

Yep and exposure is what it's all about.

Playing for England is pretty good, even if you're losing, or don't get off the bench.

Riding in MotoGP is probably equivalent, riding in the TT is League One, where Championship is BSB.

I didn't say it was easy to me but if you're riding for one of the top teams you'd expect they'd be half good.
If you have no chance of winning then you're probably just competing for the experience and wouldn't expect to earn any money.

It is probably an expensive event to organize that doesn't have a massive following, hence the prize money isn't very much. I suppose you could subsidise it but why?

I have no interest in it other then watching a short youtube montage.

I've watched some road racing live in New Zealand if that helps.

No interest but strong opinions, an odd combination.

I don't really have a strong opinion, it's a chat forum, I'm chatting.

What do you think the prize money should be then?

No one rides the IOM to get rich, you do it for the love of the sport. There is not a single rider that will be waiting for his start and thinking " This could make me 10K".

Really?
It's the most famous motorcycle race in the world, FFS!

It would appear the IOM government disagree with you as well:-

Quote:
The study has revealed that almost 40,000 (39,224) visitors attended the 2013 TT Races, a 27% increase on the 2010 figure (30,787). On average they stayed 6.5 nights and spent £668 compared to £620 in 2010. The total spending of TT visitors in 2013 was £26.2 million compared with £19 million in 2010.

Treasury has assessed the economic contribution of this figure to be £18.9 million with an exchequer benefit of £3.5 million, which represent rises of £5.2 million and £900,000 respectively.

About 50 THOUSAND people GO to the Island for the TT each year. something like of 80% of the islands entire years tourism revenue is generated in those two weeks.

But the TT is barely about the racing; it's a fourteen day bike-fest.
There's only actually 6 races, and they aren't strictly 'races' they are time-trials, competitors starting at intervals and racing against the clock, not each other.

The roads closed for about two and a half hours per 'session'; so if ALL you went for was the racing? You would probably be rather underwhelmed.

Its about the celebration of biking going on around the racing.

There's the Ramsey Sprint, 'run what you brung'; the Laxey Trial, The Douglas Beach-Race; A TT Moto-Cross. Then there are the meets and shows; the classic parade, club runs; exhibitions; talks, presentations and other 'ents' including the Bands at Busheys.... and that's just the stuff that's in the program! (About 18 pages of 'what's on'!) Out and about; various riders groups anex corners of camp-sites or pub-car-parks.

You can easily spend the entire TT fortnight revelling in the 'atmosphere'; looking at all the bikes, talking to all the bikes, and completely MISS the racing!

THAT is what makes THE Tee-Tee.

You HAVE to experience it to understand it. If all you know of it is the race reports and the death toll? You honestly cannot know what its REALLY about.

And the prize money isn't huge, 'cos it doesn't have to be.

39k is that it! Don't get me wrong I love the TT and will get myself there 1 year but I expected more than 39k.

Even your average mid table premier league football club will get that every home game.

Still wondering why Such a difference in Football wages and TT Winners.

Would you spend two weeks, non stop, at ANY football ground?
The defence rests.

I support a shit team, so maybe it is just me that hates going to a match. Crying or Very sad

The vast majority of competitors at the TT pay for the privelige of racing there!
I'd hazard a guess thay'd pay more, than they already do, to carry on racing there!
I know, in the grasping, money driven society we live in, that's it goes, totally, against the grain to even imagine someone doing something for the sheer love of it.
Fortunately there are still a few who do and the world's a better place for it!
