Hey

Got shoei Air GT helmet.

My head is 57.5 cm normal, 57 if I squeeze tape tight when I measured.

I got shoei helmet S 55-56cm which is advised to me by Seller. Hes happy to exchange for M if I want to so there is no issue with seller. Just size of helmet. He told me that it will wear in and all will be good over time.

However with me I really get red in it. I don't fell any pressure points pain. Just evenly squeezed and very tight in helmet. Also its very hard to put on/off. I had it on my head for about 15-30 minutes. While walking, kicking ball, watching tv playing on ipad. My cheecks are very tight and overall it wraps my head tight. More like it slow downs blood flow but dont stop it. Dont know how to accurately explains it. I can sit in it all day long I think but I will be aware of it.

Should I go with M or stick to S and trust it will break in ?

I had M ceberg eco in past. Right now its so big I can stick up my hand up my forehead between helmet and head... Then again Ceberg is not as good as Shoei so it probably got bigger a lot more than shoei ever will - yee / no ? Not sure. If Shoei is going to get as bick as Ceberg then I should stick to S in my opinion.

What to dooo, replace it for M which fits just fine - or trust it will break in nicely and hold on to S.

Thanks, bye.

As long as it doesn't hurt tight is better than loose.

Squeezing the blood out of your head isn't great. Alternatively, if it is a tad loose to begin with it will be very loose after a decent amount of use.

So....

Try a different brand/model.

Find one that fits snug now, without forcing your brain out of your ears.

It should be tight as the padding will compress after a while, like a well used pillow. If it fits or is loose in the shop, it's going to feel like it's falling off later. My helmet was pushing my cheeks together to start with, but is now starting to get loose.

There should not be any free play between your head and the helmet, i may seem annoying but its like that for a reason.

Why don't you buy a different brand of helmet that actually fits properly?

Not everyone has a Shoei-suitable head.

Thanks for ur opinion guys !

There is very little play between my head and helmet on both M and S. A little less with S.

So in basics should I just ignore the helmet recomended 55-56 size head where my is 57.5 and just stick to S.

Would any of you mind checking ur helmets for me? are you also in 1cm+ smaller helmet?

I can put on shoi M just fine with no problem. Its just the matter of size if I should get smaller tighter and wait for it to wear in, or get M and be happy straight away.

If its an expensive helmet with removable inserts I usually go a size up then buy the pads for a size down then you can get the perfect fit. My heads right between L and XL so I buy an XL then put L padding in it to make it tight in the right spots.

Just try on helmets at a shop, find one that fits properly and you like it and then buy it

I bought an Shoei XR1100 in size XS. For the first few months I used to get off the bike and have a really red mark across my forehead.

3 and a half years later, it fits like a glove, leaves no mark at all and is tight all over and fits perfectly. It broke itself in nicely and very comfortable Thumbs Up

I suggest you do the same, might be a bit tight to start but 3 years down the line you'll still be wearing it and it won't be loose.

I got a Caberg Duke in medium. Was tight to start with but now, 2 years later, it's very comfortable.

Recently, however, I got a AGV K3 in small. very tight but I'm sure it'll be fine after a few outings.

As said above, try a different brand, could just be that this particular one is the wrong shape for your nut.

My current helmet is sized at the same size as I measured my head (integer head ftw), but I also tried on about 15 other lids to get one I liked the fit of.

Four years ago when new, very snug but not uncomfortable, the padding and polystyrene give quite a lot over time. You can fix small spots of discomfort by compressing the polystyrene slightly with your thumb to accelerate the bedding in process (although don't go crazy). I've made the mistake of buying a lid that fit perfect out of the box before, it bedded in and became too big after a few months.

Mine was very tight when I got it (M), it didn't hurt but it was painful to get on and off (it pulled the hair on the side of my head). After a few days I got used to it, and now 1.5 years later it still fits perfectly (it is still tight). Try having a short hair cut (no, really!)

+1 - You should buy what fits. That's why I have AGV helmets, the shape suits my head.

Thanks all for ur opinions guys !

So I took the padding out. Just the side checks and I just stick my head in it. The top, side, back shape of helmet wraps my head perfectly. No pain or pressure points. I think its just the padding its very thick and I either need to beak it in or get thinner padding. I know this is not the best way to test helmet but it did tell me if the shape of it matches my head. I could not tell with check padding if it was right size as it made me go read and hot very quickly confusing me...

I think I'll trust it and hopefully it will be fine on a long run...

Bought Suomy in xs thinking that the tightness would wear off. Error. It got worse when I was hot. I had a red mark across my forehead. It didn't go away, it didn't start fitting like a glove, it irked me, it interfered with my enjoyment of ride-outs.

I ended up giving it away. I now have a Schuberth which fits near perfectly. Thumbs Up

If one is too tight and the other is too loose then buy something else.

There are hundreds of different lids to choose from, go and find one that offers you the best fit.

One of the advantages of the newer Shoei's is that the padding is available to buy in a looser or tighter fit.

It's expensive, but it means you can get a great fit.

You'd have been better getting fitted out by a good dealer before buying imo. You could still do that now, and then decide what to do.

The bold bits worry me. A helmet is supposed to fit with all of the padding in. That is how it is designed. Why on earth are you so set on this specific helmet and not willing to try on a different brand and get one that actually fits you?

The second part I have made bold screams at me to come slap some sense into you. You know it is not the best way to test a helmet but you wanted to find out if it matches the shape of your head. Clearly by my first paragraph and the fact you had to take padding out to make sure of fit is proof that the helmet does not fit you.

And then there is this bit.

Daz2000 wrote:

Its your head. Personally I would go buy a helmet that actually fits. Pretty much like Bendy, myself, Matt, London, Conzar, and Donny have said.

But what do we know?
