Righty-ho
I am going to be buying a 2001 sachs xtc 125 (2 stroke version) on thursday. It needs some work so I have come here for some help. Well here we go -
New battery (15 quid)
Speedo cable
Some screws for right side wing mirror
New front mud guard (60 quid from dealer)

Could you please tell me if any of this stuff is hard to fit as i would like to be able to do it all myself to keep the cost down. Oh and it needs a MOT, what do i do about getting the bike to the garage?
Thanks Adam

None of that suff is hard to fit. Thumbs Up

You're legally allowed to ride a bike without an MOT to a pre-booked MOT, so just book one and you'll be fine.

£250 for a '01 XTC125? Confused Confused

The sceptical side of me is saying that must be dodgy as if something seems too good to be true then that's because it is. I assume you have done (or will be doing) an HPI check before handing any money over as for £250 I'd have thought there has to be some catch. Confused

Thats exactly what I thought aswell but it is a friend of a friend who is selling it. He is moving house soon and wants to get rid of it as fast as possible. I went to look at it the other night everything seems to be ok, i rode it aswell down the street engine seemed good. My dads having a look at it on thursday night when i hopefully pick it up, he knows more bout the mechanical side of things.

HPI check will tell you if its Stolen or Writen off or any outstanding finance on it Razz

£250 is way too cheap even for a mate of a mate Neutral

I think I may well do a HPI check i did consider it. Because sods law says that there will be something wrong if I don't check!! When i was looking at it i thought, 'hmm this is worth over a grand' theres one on bike trader but 00 plate for 1800. If i get it i'll post some pictures and let you know what happens!

Definately get an HPI check done on any bike (or car) you buy as otherwise it could have been written off, have finance owing on it or be stolen.

For £250 the person selling it is either very stupid as they could easily get more than that by taking it to a dealer or trying to sell a dodgy bike. That really does seem far too good to be true, if he is really wanting to get rid of it fast he'd have advertised it in Bike Trader or just sold it to a local dealer as he'd easily get more than £250, several times more than that!

If an HPI check shows nothing then as long as it all runs okay and doesn't have any problems buy it as you'll be able to sell it straight on for a good profit!

You can do HPI checks here. Thumbs Up

I would also have a very good look at it to see if you can find any evidence of crash/stolen recovered bodges on any sides

There may also be other things to check, try taking the key out of the ignition while running to see if it still runs and see if the steering lock engages

What happened to the mudguard? unless it snapped off(?) did it take a chunk of the fork with it? Rolling Eyes

Ive never heard of a front mudguard falling off Exclamation

very dodgy to me

I managed to go look at a nackered rs50 that had the front mudguard snapped off, it was so damaged (it was stolen recovered), that the exhaust was about to fall off. I didnt even bother looking at the rest of it Thumbs Down
