It's a two stroke and the most fun bike I've ever owned. They're pretty easy to work on and reliable as anything. SO long as you keep the two stroke tank topped up, or if not fitted, remember to put two stroke in the petrol tank at about 40:1, 40 parts petrol to one part two stroke oil.
I used Castrol Power something two stroke oil and I think Castrol 10w40 semi synthetic in the gearbox, but not sure now. I used the slightly more expensive oil because I think the cost of that outweighs the cost of premature engine rebuilds. A mate uses chainsaw oil in his highly tuned DT125 and that's forever seizing, I blame poor quality oil.
I just bought a Haynes manual for it, mines a 91 but the manual was for up to 85 or something.
Get this!

Put some picture of it either in the Show and Tell or bike pic section. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

MT50 was the off road version of the MB50....came with oil pump as std and the 2t oil filler is behind the seat. Like most sports peds of the time....DOG SLOW as std....needs aftermarket front pipe and then a big bore to get better mph out of them ie 50+ and still reliable. I did a 400 mile round trip on one ......many many miles of flat out riding and it didn't miss a beat. I think the only time the throttle came off max was when I stopped!
David silver spares list a few things for them like original Honda gasket set for £15 or pattern top end gasket kits for less than £5 ! Brake shoes, cables etc
Same engine as the mb50 so this might be an interesting read

I found the standard front pipe worked better than my fresco. Just with the washer removed and the baffle in the spanny chamber drilled slightly larger, does require welding though. It is heavier than after market though. However, I found my silencer, can't remember make now gave better response and pick up.
Mine would do about 45, still original piston after 18,000 miles, flat out. Show me a european bike like that
The main restriction is the CDI, if you look at euro-spec MT5's, they make 7 bhp at 9,000RPM or something like that but ours wont rev past 6,500. So you don't get the traditional two stroke 'hit'. Apparently a Honda NS 50 CDI box plugs straight in and makes it go like stink
try 50cc.nl for bits, but based in sweden so postage will sting unless you order a bunch of stuff ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K
