I want to attach my Iphone to my bike to use as a satnav, does anyone have any recommendations on a decent holder that is waterproof and wont fall off over the slightest bump?

Cheers Mr. Green

I got this one for my android, has done me well over the winter months. I'm sure there would be an iphone version as well

I'd recommend a RAM mount (got some bits for myself from BuyBits.com - no I don't work for them).

However, not sure if there's a waterproof cover option.

I just ordered this

might be cheapo nasty but tis only a tenner, and can resort to gaffer tape if need be

Am I correct in thinking you will need a fork stem mount, not the handle bar mount?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ram-Mount-Motorcycle-Fork-Stem-with-1-Ball-Aluminium-RAM-B-342-/371070726793?pt=UK_CE_GPS_Accessories_Software_ET&hash=item566589f289

Bit more expensive but worked really well on my bike. You will also need.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Protective-Phone-Case-Holder-with-1-Female-Socket-fits-RAM-Motorcycle-Mounts-/140737748233?pt=UK_CE_GPS_Accessories_Software_ET&hash=item20c49f9d09

Its bit pricey but works well.

Exactly what I've got, from the same seller! The actual mount to the bar is strong enough for this application (unlike others I have tried) and the case itself seems to be quite well made and doesn't vibrate about and cause mayhem.

The critisism I have is that the plastic screen is not as opaque as it could be and you will likely need to bring the brightness on the phone up quite a bit to be able to see it properly in daylight conditions. I have a tomtom in mine

+1 Thumbs Up - works really well and surprisingly good quality for the price.

Only downside is that with my Samsung Galaxy S3 in it and plugged in on charge, the charge cable has to stick out the side because the charge plug is a good inch long...however, I still have used it in heavy rain without a problem.

I'm actually really interested in a mount for my S3 so i can use it as a satnav.. But I have no idea how I'd mount it because I have a fat yoke & clip-ons instead of straight handle bars.. Maybe superglue/sellotape/nails and a hammer will work Laughing

I used to use helmet speakers & listen to the directions, but fiddling with cables is a pain in the ass.

Also while on the subject of mounts, anyone know if I can get a tail bag for my bike or a tank bag?

I visited J&S to see if any tank/tail bags would fit my bike, but none of their tail bags would fit because my tail is apparently way too thin, and all their tank bags were magnetic (yzf r125 is very plastic) Thumbs Down - So this is kind of a nightmare atm. I only want a dinky little thing to put like a can of coke/wallet/phone in and what not, none of those massive boxes. Any suggestions?

Don't. Vibrations are a killer.

Use earphones.. Less distracting too.

Not convinced by google maps on earphones, might well have improved since 2 years ago, but tried this on journeys I knew and found I was getting directions way past the point where I'd need to consider changing lanes. Use my phone a lot for a quick glance at google maps if I set of having not planned a route or even looked at a map. Might consider some kind of mount or tankbag for my next tour. Considering a tank bag just big enough for waterproofs, phone and charging gubbins, maybe visor cleaning stuff in a seporate pocket, plan being I won't have to dig to the bottom of my luggage to find my waterproofs when it rains.

I can get the Hella to usb easy here bring the cable up under the tank

then just need case and mount

anyone tried this at all? better to just stick it in a freezer bag and cable-tie it on? Shocked be at least as weatherproof!

I bought a Nokia Lumia version of the link below (in fact it looks exactly the same), can recommend.

Ram mounts

I had one for my Iphone 4 and Iphone 5. I use the Telferizer ball mount in my headstock nut. Does the job and you can angle it anywhere you want. I'll post a pic of the setup tomorrow after the footie.

Either way, the ram mount is also a handy way of mounting your tripod mount for your action cameras. I get some decent camera angles of my cockpit or the rearward view of me riding with it.

Just got the cheapy one I posted earlier. it seems solid enough but the case is so damn reflective you can't really see the sat nav in sunlight. I've angled it a bit more towards me and its a bit better

I have no charge point so regarding battery life etc I tend to just use the phones satnav when I'm nearly there. Like for the last 15 mins or so once I'm in the general area.

Get yourself some decent headphones and put your phone in the inside pocket!

I only have the one headphone in so I can still hear what's going on around me.

Works a treat and doesn't use as much battery as having the screen activated.
I find the Google maps on android best, you have the "avoid motorway" setting aswell which is handy whilst your still on L plates.
