Hi, as the title suggests im stuck on choosing a new (to me) bike.
I passed my a2 in nov 2012 so restricted to 33bhp till november and was planning on waiting it out till then to save messing about with restrictions etc. but the rare sunny days has made me decide i need one now.
With the bike only being restricted till november i thought i may aswell just get something that i actually like and would like to keep after that.
At the moment i am interested in an older zx6r linked below

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301200462822?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Does any one have any experience of these restricted to 33bhp? Or any other suggestions?
The other bikes i have had in mind have been the usual suspects ie gsxr, r6, cbr and a few naked bikes such as the speed four & bandit.

The bike will only be used in nice weather as i now have a car and dont want to ride when its not enjoyable so fuel costs are no issue and i have 4 years no claims at the moment so insurance isnt too bad for all the above bike, although sports are really pricy for fully comp most likely due to my age (21) and the cost to repair in the event of an accident, So would be tpft if i chose a sports model.

Budget for the bike is 2000-2500.

Thanks.

Go tpft anyway on a cheap ish bike, fully comp has no benefits unless the vehicle is expensive

You'll be fine restricting whatever bike you've mentioned. Some will take it a little better than others but it won't damage Any of them.

Get the one you like the most and would like to keep Thumbs Up

And for just the summer I wouldn't even bother restricting it, I don't know of anyone that's ever been asked by a copper, been checked or asked by insurance about restrictions. And me and around 8 friends went through the 33 bhp restriction at the same time a fee years ago

Thanks.

4 years no claims on a car insurance policy or bike insurance policy? Typically, you can't use your NCB from a car policy on a bike policy.

Have you owned any other bikes before? If so, what bike(s) and what did you like/dislike about them?

I would discard the Bandit, it's a good budget bike imo but only good if your budget is in the high hundreds, you have £2-2.5k to spend.

I have no idea what super bikes are good or bad, the only input I can have here is that my brother has had GSXR's (mostly 600's ranging from K1-K5's and the odd 750) for the whole time he's been riding (around 6years) and has never complained and has always bought GSXR's. So they can't be that bad Smile

Not willing to chance it lol. I know i would end up getting pulled over knowing my luck.
4 years no claims on bikes az. Had a scooter from 16 and then onto 125. Last bike was a honda xr125. Which was ok and got me through my test. Just really after something more powerful and with a bit more presence. The xr didnt feel too planted in bad wind conditions.

XR125 was my first bike, I know what you mean. Still great fun though.

The bike you linked would be spot on, although that seems way too much money for a 95' model. Any 600 from the era would be great (FZR, CBR, ZZR etc). Could go a bit newer with your budget too, an r6 would be great.

I'm currently riding an FZR600r foxeye, couldn't recommend it enough. Can get a good one for under a grand, too. Insurance is cheap as chips, costing me £100 for the year. I'm an old bastard at 25, though.

I wouldn't go for this one, the frame cracks on those ZX6R's. Thumbs Down

Thats about £1000 too much.

I paid less than that for a 2004 ZX6R B1h with 13k on the clocks and a big list of extras Laughing Different time of year though...

Thanks for the replies. And cheers rhyno ill keep that in mind, is it a common problem?
Groove i have always wanted a b1h, particularly kawasaki green, but they seem few and far between at the moment and priced 3-4k when i do see them.
Scotland always seems dearer for bikes and due to the 33bhp i would really be looking to get it bought and ride away with restrictor in which means buying locally is best option.

Would start making it quite expensive to go see one down south and then get it delivered then into a garage to be restricted.

Hi mate, my restriction ends in November too.

I managed to pick up an 07' Hornet for £2450. Higher mileage at 28k, but IMO a lot more bike for the money than that 95' zxr at £1800 Shocked

Worth a look anyway, if it floats your boat at all.

Let us know what you get! Thumbs Up

That ZX6R is overpriced. You can get a good condition J2/A1P (01/02) for this kind of money or less.

Cannot fault ZX6R J2, great all round bike... but restricted to 33bhp? Man, that's gonna suck. It's going to be the same with B1H.

Are you really going to restrict?

Nice bike bikertomm, i do like the hornets but they seem to be going for mostly over 3k atm unless its an older shape.

Cheers for the advice carvel haha, im not the biggest fan of the sv but i know they seem to restrict well but think id be wanting to change once the restrictions up.
Also i dont commute so the bikes just for going a blast out in the countryside & up north etc. Not something iv ever enjoyed doing before in the pishing rain or freezing weather.

Mjz id love to just ride full power but i dont want to chance it. Already have 3 points and need my license for work so dont particularly welly it about.
