I've been sharing TSMW since the page started. The page has had a few returned bikes credited to them. Very possibly one of the best uses of social media ever.

Many of us use FB on a daily basis. I urge everyone to like and share the page. You wont get spammed, you'll get nothing more than a picture like the above one, just ckicl share and send it around your friends.

I saw that on UKMOC this morning - the poor bugger is out of work at the moment and waiting for insurance to sort out a scooter he had stolen a while ago. Now this. Sad

In general, it's actually suspected to be organised criminal gangs of generic "Eastern Europeans".

But only cos you aren't allowed to go round saying "Poxy thieving Romanians/Albanians/whatever the hated flavour of the month is".

And more illegal to beat them to a pulp if/when you catch them.

OK, Elbonian pikeys.

Best case, the Met have 6 people on the vehicle theft unit, of which at most 2 are dedicated to bikes.

That's for the whole of London, likely to have been cut by now, and I'd expect half of them to be off on leave / training / ooh-me-back at any given time.

I'd FoI it, but rather expect that they'd just knock it back under their S31 "don't wanna" exemption.

Not saying this, since I haven't heard it.. but AVCIS do run operations that are very efficient at prevention, and multi-national but everything's so quiet that the credits are never given beyond internal back patting.

Problem with ANYTHING to do with Police is once they are involved everything becomes DPA related, but insurers and courts won't deal with sanctions/payments until Police are involved so it's a catch 22.

The page is truly great - it is the only thing on the internet that does what it does, it is the only one to be cross-platform, but the 'audience' is miserably low considering how effective it could be!

www.facebook.com/itsbeenstolen - more likes its gets the more people can see and report 'em. Cool
(think about it, it costs us at the end of the day, either in a new bike or increased insurance premiums for 5 years Sick )

An interesting development:
The bike was seen being loaded into an "official-looking van" at around 3.30.

The lady who challenged them said that they told her it was being taken due to her not having paid her road tax, which when Paivi then spoke to the police and they have confirmed it is apparently a ruse that thieves have lately taken to using.

Mad

So be wary out there, and if you SEE a bike being loaded in the back of a van, and that's the excuse given, challenge them, ask for proof.

You can't say that Elbonians don't integrate quickly and spot how things work here. Sad times. Sad

Thanks chaps for posting it here and there and everywhere, huge support, which is much appreciated.

The latest development is that there are now four witnesses; three who saw the Duchess being stolen and one who saw the spotter group acting suspiciously earlier. All will give their witness statements tomorrow, as they all made good ID.

Six bikes were stolen over two days, three on each day.

The spotters, by the look of them, a certain gang from Islington, ride around on mopeds/pushbikes spotting bikes to nick. Then they call their mates, who come in a Met Police lookalike trailer, one of those that they and the councils use to remove cars parked illegally or blocking the way.

All their faces were caught by (a) humans, (b) the mobile phones thereof and (c) extensive CCTV in the area. The CCTV footage is being viewed by the businesses overnight and they'll pass it on to the Met first thing in the morning. The Met's local team is under no disillusion as to what will hit them if they don't act on that immediately.

If only the gang did what was good for them and returned the Duchess to where they took her from, or to another nearby bike bay; the Met could then just bimble on understaffed, without a certain senior officer, whom I've got on a short lead, breathing down their necks to get my bike back.

Jimmy, if you're reading this, hand her over.

So does jivebunny. He did it.

In all seriousness, my mates GSXR1000 was stolen in the same area by the sound of it by the same gang and turned up as just a frame at a scrap metal dealers the next day. Sadly I fear it is gone.

Would this be little Jimmy Tan? If so has he been paroled and if so shouldn't be too hard for your tame Policeman to tug him as he still has 2 years of his sentence to go.

Paroled in Jan, iirc. His gang were * allegedly * behind the jewellery heist where my scooter was used in Feb.

This delightful character?

Yup, would be out on parole now, because he'll have learned his lessons and mended his ways in gaol, ever so sorry or whatevs.

Hope it works out for you, and that Tan or Tan II gets to go back to Pikey Training Camp for a while longer.
