It's quite a physically big and heavy bike, for a sport bike. Nothing much wrong with them though as far as I know. I've never ridden one though, but I'm sure someone will be along soon enough who has...

Oh, but I have ridden a ZZR250 and I think you'll find a world of difference. The last thing a ZZR250 could be descibed as, is fast. No offence Very Happy

The ZX9 is a good choice; good value for money means you get more for what you pay.

It is a /big/ step up from the ZZR250, a very big step.

Personally, I would look at a 600 first. The zx9 is a good all-round sports bike, but unless you're not going to use the throttle much; you would probably be better to go for a lower powered bike to 'learn' to use big power first.

yep, what G said

the zx9 is a big step up, although if you have any sense it's a big torquey motor and can happily be ridden slowly

forget all this "it's a big heavy sportbike" nonsense, it is a few kilos heavier and a few mm longer than any of the equivalent bikes from the time.. it's no GSXR1000 granted but then it was never meant to be, it was built to compete with the fireblade and it does so admirably

I did a dozen or so track days on mine and it's perfectly competent to be middle of the fast group fast (as long as you are)

I also did some longish journeys and full days in the saddle and it's very comfortable ridden that way as well

the best all rounder of the bunch imho and reasonable pillion accomodation as well (compared to an R1 anyway)

get one only if you think you can control that right wrist as they are also 170+mph capable and you and/or your license won't last long if you have any doubts about your ability to restrain that Wink

I commuted on a ZX-9 E1 last year. 135 miles a day with no comfort problems at all (6'5" y'see). It will cruise at 80 all day on the motorway at 4K revs. I've had 176 out of mine. A tank lasts about 140 miles until reserve. Services should be every 4K miles and cost around £150. Tyres are 180/55/17 and 120/70/17. Engine is it's strong point - reliable and producing around 128bhp. Never had a problem with the handling, although it is noticably heavier than newer big bikes.
Bike sometimes runs pretty lumpy in really cold weather. Oh and the suspension needs fiddling to get the best out of the bike. I've got some PB settings somewhere....

Mine fell over friday night in the wind though Sad

I appreciate everyone's answers as i am getting the feedback from people thats got an independent opinion. Im on my quest of finding the best ZX9 and getting rid of my ZZR 250 wich is not gonna be of much value.

If you have anymore tips or comments they are greatly appreciated.

As far as jumping on the bike of bigger capacity i totally agree with everyone is a big step bu i've been riding my friends ZZR 1000 and GSX 750 and im pretty happy with them. Hopefully having my own all the time will make me the BOSS hehehe
