Hi, i have just bought a mtx 125 1987 rwh, it runs and has recently gone through its mot and passed, although it runs its like sitting on a washing machine full of bricks, it struggles in low revs and loses power very easily in fith n sixth. it seems to have all its original parts and they are just waiting to break, i kinda need it to commute to work so can only do what needs done in short stages.
where do i start?

i am quite new to bikes so i apologize in advance for my novice approach

i'd vote running it until it breaks personally, sounds a bit too much of an expensive headache to fix.

Unless you can get parts or a doner bike cheap enough and fancy spending the time doing it.

I've a similar situation with my Vara, sounds like a bag of bolts, I've had it serviced, changed the air filter, made sure its at least safe to ride and carry on

If it were just the power loss you might imaging that everything is worn and the engine is losing compression - needs a rebore.

The vibration is more worringly. If it also accompanied by unusual sounds then, as you surmise, the engine (bearings etc.) might be on there way out .. If it's vibration only maybe something like a mounting bolt/bracket has come loose.

Good luck.

hey thanks for that, i had a good look around and there are a few mounting bolts missing, so new adonised ones are on their way, which will replace all the nuts/bolts i can find on the bike lol.

i dont really want to start stripping the engine at the moment, so will just take it easy untill winter arrives then i can whip it out and start replacing what i can.

thanks again
Thumbs Up
