Anyone recommend a good guide for a beer can stove? Seems like the most compact method for bike camping. Unless there's a ready made stove/gadget out there with similar size?

The penny stove design is very efficient and effective but takes a bit more making.

If you're using a meths burner like that outside, you NEED a windshield of some sort.

I personally like my Borde stove for motorcycle camping. A little bigger than a meths burner but will work well in the wind and doesn't need me to carry extra fuel, just a tube to siphon it from the tank. Hard to get hold of one though and they are expensive. Takes a wee bit of fiddling to get the hang of using one.

Also where is the cheapest place to buy meths or that other alcohol stuff from?
Wickes have 500ml of meths for 3.49, is that cheap? Never bought any!

I like beer can stoves a lot but I have given up on them, meths is just too bloody expensive.

I've adapted my 2 stoves to run on the 227 gram (spray paint-rattle-can size) containers, I buy 4 cans for between £5 and £7 quid.

Fair enough. I dont think ill be camping enough to justify a big bulk supply of meths really.
With a can stove, how much meth would it take to say, do some pancakes, brew a coffee or 2 and make some dinner?
Id probably have 2 stoves going at once

I get my 5L of meths at my local farmer shop. Can't bring myself to pay 3.50 or so for a tiny pissing 500ml bottle at B&Q or similar.

5L lasts me years, and costs about 16 quid or so, plus its generally handy stuff to have around for general cleaning/degreasing etc.

So I made the can in the vid. It worked, but took a good 17 minutes to boil a fucking egg. And even then it wasn't hard all through. Is that just the limitations of the design?

so, 3.5" radius, 3" depth? Think that makes 115 cubic inches, or about 1.8 litres? Or is my maths fucked?

I can boil 250ml using a penny stove in 3.5 minutes if using an aluminium kettle, 4.5 minutes if stainless steel. At that ratio, it would take 25 minutes to boil 1.8 litres, so 17 minutes seems OK.

I've found the penny stove pretty effective - seem to get better 'jets' with that - but not tried the method in the linked video.
