Yes.
It can be a bit of a struggle.
Had mine done at the hospital, both sides.
I think it's recommended (I think better sound insulation so the screams don't get to the other patients).

First one sort of snapped. Virtually had dentist standing on my chest to lever the remains out. It was, shall we say, interesting.
Silly sod said I must be shattered after that and I could come back for the other one.
I wasn't going through that twice so elected for him to continue. Second one just came straight out (in comparison).

Was off work for a good few days. Quite painful, although the whisky mouthwashes were effective Wink Yes, I did swallow.

Don't let that put you off. If they need doing then go.

It depends entirely on the tooth. If it is vertical they can yank it out.

If it is horizontal its a different story.

For YEARS I had a white spot at the back of my mouth, I ignored it. turned out was a wisdom tooth coming out sideways.

They had these long curly needles which were sharp pain for a sec, then I felt nowt except slight pressure.

The dentist at the hospital proceeded to smash my tooth to bits and pulled the pieces out as there was no room to pull it out complete.

Made my face swell up and couldn't talk for 2 days.

What happens if you go to a doctor for a dental problem? i.e.: you're not registered with a dentist and get an ache or something.

Emergency dentist. They're usually a few NHS places setup for this.

I have had a wisdom tooth pulled, he numbed everything up and then pushed and pulled until it came out. It was all over in less than a minute but did bleed an awful lot. When I could eventually feel my face again I had a weird sensation every time I swallowed, my sinus would pop. Apparently the root was so long it went up into my sinus Sad

They offered me sedation but explained that they wouldn't actually knock me out just make me really confused and groggy. Like that YouTube kid!

Honestly it's not as bad as you think and the worst part is the few days after when you try and eat. Or talk. Or sleep!

I was actually in the chair when the dentist said "rather than doing all the necessary work on a wisdom tooth that is growing sideways and will need to be removed anyway in a couple of years, why not just have it out now?"

He didn't put me under any pressure. I thought about all the drilling and filling I would need that day if I didn't have the wisdom tooth taken out, screwed up my courage and said "remove it".

He gave me a local, messed around in my mouth, there were some crunchy sensations but no pain. Then he pulled back and took his stuff out of my mouth. I took the chance to ask him how much longer he thought it would take. "It's done" he said. Total time I think less than 60 seconds. I was pitifully grateful for his skill. So it doesn't always hurt. Thumbs Up

Interestingly a few weeks later a small fragment of tooth gradually emerged, painlessly, from the gum. The body getting rid of detritus! Cool.

Dentist attempted to get one out, but i'd been out the night before and got hammered; high blood alcohol level = anaesthetic didn't do shit.

He stopped when he saw tears in my eyes, nearly ripped the arm rests off the seat as well.

Tried again later at hospital - without drinking this time and the worst part about it was the injection, the rest was fine. They stuck a big tampon in my mouth after, and it bled a bit for three days after, but the relief was immeasurable.

Get it done sooner rather than later as if it starts to rot like mine did, it'll hurt like fuck, and you'll definitely consider home surgery if left long enough!

I went to the dentist as I had recurring gum infections around my wisdom teeth. After an xray and a bit of a blasting I was referred to my local Hospital Dental Clinic. Apparently the roots of my lower wisdom teeth were sitting on the nerve, she didn't want to risk giving me 'stroke face' and getting sued! Laughing

10 weeks later I was put under GA and had all four out in one hit. Nurses were nice, I was a pain in the ass coming round... Will avoid GA if at all possible in the future!

Oh, they don't let you keep them. They are now classed as a body part and yellow bagged. Sad

I had one wisdom tooth pulled in the dentists, the rest came out in the hospital in one go. I'd recommend the hospital as it's done under a general anaesthetic so you know nothing about it.

Had one of my upper WT out a couple of years ago at the dentist. Local anaesthetic.

Absolutely no problem, straight root, like yours, so it came straight out.

Ignore these horror stories and MTFU.

I had the 2 bottom ones removed a while ago. It wasn't a pleasant experience, they had to cut them in half with some sort of electric disk saw so they would be easier to extract. Technically you can't feel any pain but you can feel everything else like vibrations, nerves snapping when they pull out the bits etc.. but the worst part is probably the 2 weeks following the operation.
That being said I don't want to put you off, so go for it and have fun Mr. Green

Funny this thread should come up now. Just a couple of days ago I noticed two more wisdom teeth.

One of them is surrounded by so much gum that I've had to shove a torch in my mouth and use a pointy thing to clean it properly, then used saltwater as mouthwash to make sure it doesn't go funny while the rest of the gum opens.

The other one looked like it might be sideways, which is a thing I've never heard of before, but having read this thread it seems a sideways wisdom tooth might be a possibility, which is annoying.

I don't want to get them looked at or pulled out because there isn't any issue at all yet, plus it'll cost me a bit. My only worry is that I'm going to China in a few months and won't be home for a year, so any problems will have to be put on hold!

That's my wisdom tooth addition to this thread... Mr. Green

I had my top two out at the dentist.
Wasn't expecting it, same as a few others on here, went in cos I'd had a few problems and he said lets take them out now.

Wasn't pleasant and needed to go home and lay down after.

I believe bottom ones are worse and can require surgery to remove them.

I had all four removed in one go. It was great. I loved waking up halfway through (was put under full anaesthetic), sitting up and feeling a tooth in my mouth, and spitting it across the room. The nice assistant asked me to lie back down, please.

Likewise, the blood and blood and blood and blood afterwards. Put cotton in mouth, remove immediately, soaked in blood. Prodding your chin hoping that the thing you had to sign a waiver for (accidentally damaging the nerves to your chin) hasn’t happened.

Mine is gradually coming out, just a little white thing at the minute. Fucking hurts and isn't out enough to be taken out Laughing I've had 2 teeth out on the bottom of my mouth, 2nd from back on each side. 1 snapped in half eating toffee and the other I had a filling when I was younger, it fell out and my tooth came out in my sleep. Laughing

The blood will be immense, do it near Halloween if you can Laughing

Depends on the length of the roots - most of the time it's fine, and as always if you have a fear of the dentist it's always going to be more traumatic. Could be trouble-free, will be painful and unpleasant but nothing to worry too much about. Worst case scenario (as happened to my Uncle) you'll have massive long roots, they'll make a bit of a mess getting it out and you have to eat soup or ice-cream for the next couple of weeks.

Your biggest enemy is worry

I had a bit of chicken lodged behind a tooth once, couldn't get it out for about 36 hours. When I picked it out and sniffed it, it smelled of decaying animals.

It’s not that bad to be fair. The worst part is the worrying leading up to sitting in the chair. Had a wisdom tooth taken out last Wednesday. The numbing injections were the most painful but after that it was just a case of lying back and trying to think about other things whilst the dentist applies torturing pressure to your gob Laughing Left work mid morning, biked to the dentist, had the tooth out and was back to work within 45 minutes Thumbs Up
