As title states the bike is a 99 Honda XLR125
I'm studying motorcycle maintenance & mechanics level 2 - i explained to my teacher about "something i had read on the internet", People who speak of 'cutting a certain wire from the cdi unit' and the bike will go faster. I told him i thought it was a load of crap - However, he then explained to me how it could be possible... The wire they talk about is something to do with a rev limiter, keeps the engine from being able to rev out and damage itself. In turn cutting this wire disables the "safety" if you will, letting the bike rev higher and achieveing more power. he then explained the damages this could cause the engine and advised it was a bad idea. What he did say though is that i should be able to find a CDI unit, which has a raised rev limit but something still within safety limits, so an increase on the stock cdi of about 2-3k more revs.
Im not trying to make a 4stroke125 try to do 80mph, but something a bit more would be nice. Fitting a larger carb, bigger exhaust, air filter etc will hardly do any noticeble performance, i may try the idea of going down/up a few teeth on front and back sprocket however.
Anyone know of CDIs with an increased rev range that would work on this model? or any chinese pit bike "racing" cdis? (lol)
