Frank Thomas textiles

What is the general view of Frank Thomas stuff? I've read a few posts on t'internet about them having huge numbers of returns but the posts are quite old - 2008 or earlier.

Have they improved?

I'll admit that their website is useless, lots of 404's and the pictures are laughable.

I've picked up an FT Tourino Aquatec jacket cheap from ebay - my existing 50 quid ebay one is falling apart after less than 2 years. Am I about to be disappointed?

the stuff i have had of theirs doesnt stay water proof for very long, maybe a year, my current RST is still water proof after nearly 3 years and never being washed of harshly dried

I've had my FT over trousers about three years now, commute every day in them and so far no signs of wear. Not terrifically waterproof, but that's what a waterproof oversuit is for.

FT plasticy racing style boots, again can't complain, leathers starting to crack after three years of fairly regular use, but then they're not really designed as commuter boots, and weren't expensive.

Been wearing FT stuff on my daily commute of 10 miles into Edinburgh for over a one and half years, in some biblical downpours as well.

Not and issue at all.

Got my FT textiles around two and a half years ago.

They're not great but, they're not terrible either.

They've had a lot of use in that time mind you and now the stitching is coming undone around the left hip of the trousers and both cuffs on the jacket. They're now as waterproof as toilet paper too. Been Nik Waxed a few times but, it doesn't last too long.

They have been down the road a couple of times, when I first started out riding and done their job of protecting me well. Although, any offs I had were 30-35 mph at most. So nothing too testing really.

Would I buy FT again? Not too sure. I think I'd like to try something else in the same price range, to see how it compared but, I'd not say that I wouldn't buy them again either.

Been wearing FT textiles for over two years, only small gripe is the velcro on the wrist straps had become less adhesive but the quality over all has been more than satisfactory.
Like a lot of other brands, don't bother putting anything in jacket pockets that you want to keep dry, resealable sandwich bags are the solution.
I stuck to the FT brand with my leathers which I've also found to be very well made and comfortable.

I had rst textiles, and found they leaked like a seive. My FT jacket on the other hand is great. The two sets of FT leathers I got second hand are also ace

Jacket turned up, seems pretty substantial with 3 layers in total. Weighs quite a bit (around 3kg) and back armour makes it feel a bit top heavy.

My last ebay jacket cost 50 quid and it's falling apart, this one seems to have a retail price of 179 but for 50 quid I'm prepared to give it a go.

well, following a decent downpour yesterday, i can confirm that my FT aquapore jacket kept my top half perfectly dry.

the FT leather trousers on the other hand, let me get very wet from the waist down

Got a frank Thomas textile jacket from the bsb about 3yrs ago.used everyday and still good and waterproof.no signs of it falling apart either

I've had a Frank Thomas leather jacket for years and it's all good. Standard leather jacket fit though, which means it's short with long and thin sleeves. This means my bum sometimes pokes out and I sometimes get pins and needles in right hand with spirited riding. Seems well made and very thick though.

Can't rate crash protection though as I haven't crashed yet.

I picked up some Frank Thomas boots on discount not so long ago, they didn't take much breaking in but seem pretty solid. I have fairly thick legs but still can't do up the boots so they're snug to my calf muscle (which is about the size of a gala melon).

Didn't frank thomas go bust and become a brand of J&S a few years ago? Just before Hein Gericke went down the first time IIRC.

I was given a nice pair of their trousers a while back, textile, titanium inserts over the kneecap so likely to slide well, really really warm. Fit well over skinny jeans so I tend to use them if I'm going somewhere where I don;t want to be stuck in leathers or tight textiles all day and have nowhere to change. Armour was cheap foam shit that perished with age, but that's been upgraded to some knox pads I had floating around.
