Is a reg/rec supposed to get very warm?

is it a honda

OEM reg/rec on the hornet went pop a few weeks before I bought the bike off my mate. The bike shop he went down to recommended an aftermarket one with a much more effective heatsink and that seems to do fine.

how warm is very warm, they do get warm.

they convert excess electrical energy as heat. dont know if newer ons have gone switching yet, but even they can get a little warm if they are working hard.

if all else fails, get an old superdream one, wire it in and forget about it, yes i have on the little 400 with a busa battery in it and all is fine

Hi. It's a Hyosung gt125. Been doing a lot of work on it. Had it running for 15 mins to warm it up before a ride and noticed a lot of heat coming from it. It's bolted on between frame and side fairing.

Fairly warm. I've never noticed one getting warm before on any bike I've owned so just checking!

They can get hot to the touch. Guess that's why they have cooling fins and often attached in airflow or on a heaksink.

15mins warming up in Summer is wasted fuel and riding time.
Many suggest riding it straightaway. So do I.

they will get warm while stood still, they need airflow to keep them cool, as said that the idea of the fins, some insist on fitting fans but there really is not need

I only let the bike warm for 5 mins or so before I go out but I was doing an oil change so left it a bit longer. I just wanted to know if it was getting too hot but you've answered my question. Thanks very much all!
