Would you advise as a first big bike?

Anything I should know about or be aware of?

We have one. They're alright, nothing exceptional but have decent brakes and handling. Engines can sound like a bag of nails due to the use of a primary chain with no tensioner. The CCT is a typical Kawasaki CCT - i.e. it's going to stop working sooner or later but rebuild kits are available on eBay for £15-20. Spares are reasonably cheap.

Oh and they need a decent coat of ACF50 in the winter otherwise they're prone to rusting.

Thanks. I've been warned elsewhere that they suffer from a noisy tick-over ;is that the CCT?

I've also been told that they're fairly docile under 7500rpm; do they liven up after that or are they fairly reserved through the entire rev range?

Either CCT or primary chain. If it's the latter then unless you're prepared to split the cases you'll have to live with it. It's not a big problem TBH.

They aren't the fastest of machines but they do pick up a bit at higher rev ranges.
