Either he knew it was an offence, in which case, moderate-high level of idiocy for breaking the law.
Or he didn't know it was an offence, in which case, moderate-high level of idiocy for not knowing the law.

I have taken off 1.2 points for being caught in the first place, and a further 0.6 for failing to talk himself out of it.

Potentially he could have only been a minor idiot.

If he'd talked his way out of it I'd have given him 3 bonus points to swing him towards genius.

Haven't followed that thread at all but to be honest I'd have thought it would be quite fine to give someone a go at driving in a supermarket car park when the place isn't open for business.

Common sense thrown out of the window again. This country is far too restricted by a lot of its laws, I think. I mean seriously it's this kind of shit that is making me want to be gone from this country as soon as possible. There are so many places where that kind of situation would be completely ignored. (Also there are places where the police would threaten you with needless violence or demand a hefty bribe . I guess I just want to live somewhere in the middle of the spectrum)

If anyone wants to ride or drive any of my vehicles its on the understanding of:

a) Bend it buy it (or repair it)
b) You are on your own if feds become involved, as my standard response will be "as far as I know they have a licence and are insured on their own policy" I may even go as far as to say this is what they implied (but perhaps not explicitly stated).

And thats it. That is enough to avoid the potential charge that Open is being asked to defend himself against.

Perhaps Open is a little naive as to how the police would see it, is all.

Expensive lesson learned.

Done it when younger as that is how you got to learn the ropes so to speak. Dad used to take me out in car for a shot in a car park , or somewhere quiet.

And having put ma check hat on. Found folk doing the same thing. Not hoofing about or being daft. Just having a shot of driving in a secluded quiet car park.

Stern warning and check them out if they pass all the relevant " tests ".

I don't think he's full retard as hes done something that many of us on here and thousands of teenagers across the country have done -
a go in a mates/dads car in a deserted place.

It's just unfortunate he got caught.

When my dad took me out for a go in his car, we went to an old airfield that was miles long and only had one entrance to it. That way if the filth had come along we'd have plenty of time to scramble about in the car to change positions before they got to us.

1. Didn't know that particular law concerningsupermarket car parks was illegal.
2. Didn't have a chance to actually do anything as police turned up about a full minute after we arrived. No word of a lie.

Been approach by police a few years ago when letting my friend ride my bike outside the house, he was just giving it a go, seeing how he liked gears on a bike.
Police came up, told them what was going on, then we said we wouldn't do it again.

They were fine and even said "look guys, next time just go to a car park or something"...

if this was new zealand, the police woundn't have even bothered with the paper work, they probably would have told them to go to a less public area
and carry on,

i think this is just one of the things that is wrong with the uk,
i was talking to my partners father yesterday and he got back from budapest and mentioned how it was so nice walking around the city at night and people were just sitting by fountians drinking beer and wine,
their were no problems from anyone, the police have better things to be doing than pulling people for victimless crimes

victimless crime, no one got hurt, and the potential for someone to get hurt is very low,

somewhere something went wrong in british society if this is worth wasting atleast a dozen peoples time,
