Yes. Breaking the grip at the back and sliding the back round makes the bike point towards the exit of the corner sooner, so I suppose you can probably get the power on sooner as a result.

The reason it's dangerous is mainly because when the tyre bites and stops slipping, the sudden jump in grip has a tendency to spit the rider off in a highside.

Drifting is a term for cars.

It is much, much, much harder on a sports bike.

Backing it in is technically getting it sideways as you go into a corner; this is done by dropping down the gears so that the rear loses traction from the engine braking.

Impressive, but for a real masterclass you need to hunt down videos of Gary McCoy from before GP went 4 stroke. Totally unrivalled to this day. Thumbs Up

The is a big difference betwean doing something to show off, and doing something to actually gain a speed advantage.
Rossi is good at drifting the rear late on in a race to help turn the bike in when the front tire is low on grip.

But thats not backing it in. Thats powersliding it around a corner.

Backing it in is when the rear wheel looses traction thru heavy braking on the rear or downshifting to a lower gear than the road speed requires hence the tyre is spinning SLOWER than usual, it then drifts out to the side.

Twins are more prone to it than fours due to better engine breaking.
