I do not think I really have the right to comment on that, as I have never bought/fitted an aftermarket can!

Had an Art can on my ZX6R when I got it, no complaints about that.

Bought a Remus can for it off eBay cos it was going cheap, no complaints about that.

Had Quill T3 cans on my TL1000R when I bought that, no complaints but was wanting race cans so I bought some of the Remus ones with remoavable baffles. Got those cos the baffle is held in with an allen bolt so no problems there and they're E-marked.

No complaints with any of my cans I've had, when looking for cans first stop is eBay to see what's going cheap.

I would say Akrapovic, kind of wish I never sold mine now, this high level thing is annoying and now stuck in the shed in a corner, I may just use it on track. If I want to buy another Akrapovic its going to cost me a fair bit more than last time.

It depends if your after nosie, or noise and power. I've heard people say that the reason cans like art are so cheap is because they are just cans that bolt on to increase the noise, and that they arn't made to tuned lengths to actually give a good performance increase, whereas cans like akrapovic are more expensive but they are desinged specifically for the bike with lots of clever science/dyno runs behind them to make sure that there is a decent power gain. That is also why akrapovic cans are more expensive, plus the fact they are a good quality name.

For avoiding unwanted attention, headaches and not portraying a bad image for yourself and every other biker on the planet- standard
For making lots of noise- cheapy
For proper power gains and a decent sound- akrapovic or yoshi all the way.

I personally have had standard for the last 3 years, and have not been collared once. *touches head*

Slightly OT

What would be best for the ZXR4. Blueflame or Micron? Going to treat myself to a full system in the summer.

Micron have a better reputation, but also cost more.

A full system will require jetting changes; preferably with a high-flow air filter.

First, I would go second hand; keep an eye on ebay etc for bargains.

Definitely get it all set up properly at a dyno place.


I would probably go for a cheaper system and try to get some other mods done with the spare money.

(Or, more likley, I'd spend it on a track day or two ... which will probably make you a lot faster rider due to your riding rahter than the bike .)

As a slightly side note... I discovered the company who make all the bits for Blue Flame, and purchased one of their bargainous cans at the NEC this summer.

They're called Beowulf, and if you're low on budget, they're well worth talking to. A small friendly company who will fabricate just about anything for you. I've been pleased with my can so far, it sounds good on my bike (CBR400) and has removed the flat spot that I had around 7000 rpm. Plus it's a r/l one, so keeps mother happy
