I'll start out admitting my understanding of certain mechanical parts of bikes is lacking a little but I have a quick questions.

I've got a CB500 that come with a little plastic bag labelled '33bhp restriction washers' and a couple of metal washers in it. Does the fact that there are washers in there mean the bike is unrestricted and running full power?

OR when you restrict the bike, are the 33bhp washers fitted in place of standard washers meaning the ones in the bag could be the stock ones and the bike may still be restricted?

Cheers all!

They will be the restriction washers, because when bike is on standard unrestricted power, there are no washers.

So I vote that bike is unrestricted.

These are my restriction washers that I took out

Yup, that isn't restricted, however you simply pop the carbs off and stick those in the inlet.

Looks like it was done back in 2004! Still, good to know it's got as many of its 57bhp as possible Laughing

I guess with all the new rules they're no use to anyone now?

Cheers guys!

A slightly larger diameter hole (i.e. bigger than 18.3mm) should restrict to 35kW/46.6Bhp if required for A2 licence holder. Only I don't know what size hole that'd be Confused

..err my simple maths suggests (18.3MM X 44.6 BHP) / 33 BHP = 25.8mm hole. Although don't quote me on that.

Doesn't work like that, sadly. That would require a linear relationship between inlet diameter and power. I don't think it's quite that simple!

Agree with Marjay, but even if not you have doubled the area of the intake with that increase.

All the best

What part of "Don't quote me...", never mind! Rolling Eyes

I was only doing rough (linear) maths to make a point. I guess you may be more accurate calculating the area of hole(s) relating to 33bhp and mapping that to area required for 44.6bhp and then working out diameter from that. Only tbh I cba, pass it onto a maths teacher, or an engineer Wink
