Hope this is the right place to put this, hardly Touring, but I think it covers exploring.

My first ever proper bike ride in 4 years of biking for the sake of going for a ride and not just commuting

https://youtu.be/5d6_Kkhlp2Q

My local loop. Tintwistle to Langsett then Mortimer road to Snake pass and back home (Last bit missing as the battery ran out).

https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/route.jpg

Warts and all video, Note I took out the 5 mins I was helping some fellow bikers who had a seized brake.

The A628, A616 and part of the Mortimer road are being used for the Grand Depart tour de France and it was busy with cyclists.

Well this weekend I'm going on another Bimble.

This time to I'm going to do another 1 hr route Glossop to Chapel-en-le-Frith then Hope Valley and back up to Derwent and back up the Snake Pass to Glossop.

I'll post another video of the route if people want to view.

We used to do the Holmfirth/saddleworth triangle every couple of weeks.

Strines was always bumpy as hell, it was where most of the Manchester Norf group cut their teeth and I used the snake to train new riders to corner.

They have put some new tarmac on a big stretch which is freakishly smooth vs the bits not on the tdf route. The undulations on some of the straights make you have to grip your bike well but it is kind of fun.

I'm planning on doing a route with the A635 next probaby from the A628.

I'm a bit of a newbie out of town on a bike so any hints for better riding would be appreciated.

I''m on a 125 so regaining speed isn't very nice when you get slowed by a slower vehicle.

The last time I was on snake, there was a 50 mph limit, and average speed cameras along the way!!! Thumbs Down

Was planning on tackling Snake Pass for the first time this Saturday on my way to the West Coast.

Should be an interesting learning experience...

I know, last ride with Trev it had cameras on it in 2008. It wasn't this way in 2006-7 when Fran and John did it and well over 100.
