Hm, they also apparently fit over the outside of your ear and not in them. Worth knowing.

I personally use these for tree work and sometimes riding (i have a cheap helmet with terrible wind noise) which do the job fine. Much more durable and faster to put in than foam ones, plus a slightly lower SNR since you don't want to block out too much sound.

I agree, excellent protection at a very good price.

Rogerborg will be along to tell you to buy some silly putty off ebay for a few quid and have a go with that. It's good advice too.
In the meantime I'll suggest these.
https://www.nonoise-earplugs.com/en/products/motorsport/

Found they work best for me. Cut out the worst of the noise, but can hear conversations when you're stopped.

those putty ones are advertised as 22db reduction.

Foam ones are >32db.

That means the foam ones block 10 times more noise than the putty ones

How much noise do you need to block to protect your hearing? Thinking
Genuine question.

laser lites , I wear them all day mon - fri for work, inc. on the bike way there and back.

lots of people seem to not use them properly, youre supposed to roll them into a tube between your fingers them push them right in so only the "ears" are sticking out. do NOT just jam them into your ear, pointless. Thumbs Up

Motorcyclists are exposed to something like 105db, perhaps more on one's private road.

The level in which hearing gets permanently damaged is around 85db. H&S at work regs claim 80 I believe.

So really anything with a minimum SNR 20, 25 to be safe, 30 to be indulgent. I chose the higher because fuck tinnitus.

I've got a box of foam ones for tree work that claim to be SNR 38, topped with ear defenders since we're regularly exposed to 115db+

A wheelie bin is rated to create up to 89db of noise, maybe they should have earplugs in to wheel them out once a fortnight

Exposure to 89db for a couple of hours is a bad idea, exposure for 15 seconds won't do any damage

I ordered what ben90 linked, and will try the putty if the new ones are no good.
Not getting on with the standard orange ones. Even when rolling into a sausage, it never seats properly in my left ear, right is fine.
Plus my helmet is only some Nitro £80 thing. And I'm riding a v twin with v&h pipes with no windscreen. So yea, I need good plugs!

I bought these last year:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HERTZ-Earplugs-DIY-Custom-Molded-Silicone-Earplugs-New-and-Improved-/271515851032?pt=UK_BOI_ProtectiveGear_RL&hash=item3f379b1918

about £8 delivered, and I had enough to make a normal set, and a set moulded around my headphones. one year on and im still using them almost every day, and they are looking fine Thumbs Up

Yeah I wear these at work and for riding too, you roll them into a tiny tube and put them in, at first your like "these aren't blocking anything at all.." but over about a minute or two they slowly expand and fill your ear. They shut out a lot of sound.

Are these actually any good? For £180 I'd expect so but I'm not a fan of dropping the best part of £200 to find out they're shit.

Thought I'd update. Been using the ones Ben90 linked and they work very well. Absolutely massive improvement to those orange ones so thanks for the recommendation.
Only slight disadvantage is they block out practically all sounds. Also the design of them makes them collect air wax very easily lol.
Will make long distance rides much more enjoyable though
