Keep an eye on your direct debits before renewal.

Yeah I noticed that last time I renewed with Swinton.
I assumed it was standard practice, being that all Insurers are cunts anyway.

That's another insurer added to my avoid list.

I don't suppose they'd refund any fucking overdraft fees because of their ridiculous policy either?

They have to do the Auto renewal by law on all policies they say,
Unless you cancel it.

Moral of the story seems to be to read your policy documents which is a sensible thing to do anyway.

Meh, if they're the cheapest then their renewal policies don't matter as long as you know in advance that you need to call and cancel the renewal.

lol, they are liars.

i am with them because they are cheap. all my vehicles are usually cheap so I'd rather renew them than claim, so cost is the only factor i take into account to be honest.

would i recommend them? absolutely not!! customer service is shit, they charge you all sorts of bollocks for nothing.

even if you take out a new policy to stay with them rather than take your business elsewhere, they will not waive the cancellation fee for your other policy (swinton bikes only, car dept are ok with this), seems like they don't particularly give a fuck about retaining your business.

They may say but it's not true in the slightest

Swinton are my least favourite broker, ever. I'd not use them to insure my turds

I'm insured through Swinton and I don't have any trouble. Just renewed tonight, as it happens, and my premium dropped 20% despite removing all security measures from my bike this time and declaring a couple more mods. Mind you, I pay up front so there's no direct debit for them to abuse.

Did you get any other quotes before renewing? That includes getting a quote from Swinton as a new customer!

They say huge whopping lies.

This is low behaviour even by insurers' standards.

Yeah, I got two others thru Swinton and took the cheapest of the three. I could've beaten it with MCE by less than a fiver but that'd mean going through all the bollocks of declarations and shizz. Besides, I've read lots of crap reviews of them too.

They're all criminally fraudulent scum. It just comes down to the cheapest price for the legally required rip-off.

Didn't realise you'd met them all.

I worked with some places with shocking business practices; I've worked with others that are so clean and customer focussed I'm amazed. Ultimately the better ones have higher customer retention numbers but, unfortunately, negative attitudes such as 'they're all the same rip off merchants' undermines the good ones more than it does the bad - the bad don't care if you go elsewhere, they'll get you back the next time.

Just by the very nature of the insurance game the companies are, as Hetzer so eloquently puts it, scum. If they're still in business then they're fighting constantly to scrape every penny they can from other insurance companies... They have to simply because other companies do. That ultimately only screws over one group - the customer.

It's funny... When I first insured a car here I was astounded that there are only a couple of insurance companies and they have fixed prices. The next thing I was astounded by was the average prices - way, way cheaper than the UK... Odd how competition is meant to benefit the customer, but often does the exact opposite.

Am I reading into this correctly that competition detriments the customer?

Unfortunately this. They're all shit, all you can do is choose the cheapest, or one of the cheapest prices..

And yet here I am, having placed 3 motor policies a year for nearly 4 years, 2 motor policies a year for over 10, and at least one motor policy a year for over 15, plus household covers, travel covers, specialist camera covers, life covers and various others and I can count on the fingers of one thumb how many problems I've had.

Actually that's not true - I've had one problem; it was Swinton and a ridiculous cancellation fee, or administration charge and additional premium mid term when at NB they could offer me a price that was half that they were attempting to charge. Took the lesser of the two evils to get my first year's NCD and then never went back to them.

On the Swinton policy I made the mistake of going cheap thinking how bad can it be - and it turned out that it was bad. Conversely I've used the same high street non chain, non aggregated or absorbed broker for nearly 7 years on my private car policies and they've been exceptionally good with anything I've thrown at them. They're not the cheapest by quite a margin but they're worth the extra.

I insured my bike with Swinton a few weeks back simply because it's third party only and only cost a few quid.

In the past I have insured my car with them and the one thing I have learned is to give them a made-up phone number to avoid being pestered with sales calls offering insurances for accident, home, travel and such like.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. They still call me now, despite telling them at least 5 times to take me off their DB Rolling Eyes

I too think Swinton Insurance are scum. They auto renewed on a car policy that I had, I had no idea this was going to happen (yes, maybe I should have read the policy documents).

I'd left the country so did not know until I returned on holiday. I called them, explained the situation, and ended up having to pay a cancellation fee.

It's clearly a scam aimed at ripping people off. I'll never buy a policy from Swinton again!
