Shit in road?

I went the long way home tonight (23:45'ish) and on a particualy nice twisty bit I saw a large branch across the entire oncoming lane, on a blind bend. It looked about 6cm diameter and long enough that avoiding on a bike would be a challenge However a car should have no problem, perhaps a scratched bumper or a face full of hedge if they panic brake/swerve. Not sure if a car would clear it out the way or just bounce over it...

I decided not to turn round or risk stopping in a bad place to move it, however its something Id not like to come across even in daylight. People should drive to the conditions and all that. I saw 3 cars and 3 bikes heading towards it from the next village

same thing happened to me about a year ago, I was behind a lorry that was travelling through some country roads with low hanging tree branches, the lorry knocked a lot of branches down and should not have been driving that way really. One branch it knocked down was huge, it had branches coming off of it and was a foot or so off the ground where some of them stuck out. I rode straight into it, hit my foot pretty hard and was very surprised I didn't come off.

I stopped to move it straight away, but as I did so a guy behind me in a van pulled over and sorted it out, if another biker had come along, it easily could have caused an accident.

A few months back I came across a railway-sleeper in the fast lane of the M6 (in my car) in heavy rain. That was a close call. If there'd been a car to my left I'd have hit it, as a bunch on the hard-shoulder had.
No way I'd have driven on if it had been anywhere other than a motorway.

I hit a stick about the size you're describing on a country lane at night before (few days after the 2013 Stormpocalypse), and nearly dropped my bike as it flicked up and jammed in against the rear wheel.

Now whenever I see anything big in the road I stop and move it. It only takes a minute.

Ten minutes later road was closed as someone smashed into it tried warning them but they ignored me

Even if OP was unable to move the branch, he could have warned the drivers he saw going the same way. Even if OP is unable to do that.. No need to post his observation on a forum as if a group of drivers heading towards a nasty obstacle & potentially a nasty accident too is something deserving of a ' '
