We're trying to fix my mates bike, but we don't know much about electrics...

Here's some relevant information;
- Charge the battery and the bike electric starts and runs fine
- The battery is not charging when the bike is running
- Battery dies after a while and will not electric start
- Bike starts on the kicker no problem and runs fine

So, we thought reg/rec and replaced that... Exactly the same as above - did not fix the problem.

We checked the output from the generator and it was c. 50 volts. Only other thing that might be useful - the bike has a lithium ion battery. Not sure if this affects anything?

Any pointers / checks would be appreciated. Going to try and get it sorted tomorrow for rising Friday.

Thanks in advance.

Does the voltage increase from 12v when the engine running?

At what voltage does the multimeter say at tickover, 2000, 3000, 4000 rpm?

If you are sure the alternator/reg rec is fine, the battery is probably duff.

Thanks for the response. With the engine off it is 13.22 volts. With the engine running, at any rpm, it's still 13.22 volts.

We'll re-check the generator tomorrow and try a new battery.

Yeah, check the alternator is outputting the correct voltage and that the reg/rec is too, before putting a new battery in.
