https://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.php?id=17786&cat_id=1

I just came back to Cyprus and this is what happened yesterday:

"The country was shocked into silence yesterday as the news broke that another road accident had taken the life of a 15-year-old boy and left his 17-year old sister critically injured and on a ventilator at Nicosia General Hospital. A 20-year-old army conscript was arrested after the accident.

At around 1.45pm on April 1 Avenue in Lakatamia, 15-year-old Vasilakis Michail was walking home from school with his sister Argyro and school friends in a residential area, when a 20-year-old soldier lost control of his racing motorbike while trying to overtake a car on one wheel. He ended up on the pavement, colliding with the two teenagers. Vasilakis died immediately while Argyro was rushed to Nicosia hospital with serious head injuries where she now remains in critical condition and breathing through a ventilator.

The National Guard conscript, Marios Vasiliou, was not wearing a helmet at the time. He escaped with minor injuries but was soon arrested after the incident. Vasiliou was a neighbour of the two teenagers who were only metres from their home before the accident occurred. The parents of Vasilakis and Argyro have no other children.

According to reports, Vasiliou had bought the bike a month before, while Vasilakis was in the youth team of a prominent football club and was on his way to getting a call up to the national youth team.

Justice Minister Doros Theodorou told CyBC last night that the whole country was shocked by the tragic accident. Evidently moved, he said: “I feel that this has to mark the end of an era of negligence and irresponsibility. I have given the order to police to impose the strictest charges possible in these cases with the heaviest penalties.” "

This is such a tragic accident. Feel sorry for the family. Its things like this that give us bikers such a bad name in cyprus. at the moment, if you're on a motorbike and a police car sees you, he will follow and stop you, ask for registration, license and check the bike. Its such a small place anyway its normal to be stopped two three times a night and its bloody annoying! Pri.cks like those take the fun out of biking

Doubt he wants back into the army; It says he was a conscript.

Overtaking whilst wheelying whilst there are pedestrians around is ofcourse irresponsible, and in this case the worst case scenario was manifested.

It's a shame he didn't get removed from the gene pool whilst doing it. Then again, maybe 60 odd years of knowing he's killed someone, maybe two, by being a twat is better justice.
