Hi all, sold some forks and the courier has damaged them.
The top of the forks has popped off and the seal is knackered. What is this seal called? Can only find bottom seals on ebay.
Its for a cbr 125.
Thanks, Grant

Hi

Would expect it to take a LOT of damage to knock the cap off the fork. What else has been damaged?

All the best

Keith

He said the oil is leaking badly out of it, definitely wasn't leaking whilst I packaged and posted it.

The buyer is trying to scam you, you need a socket and a vice to undo the fork cap.

Even in high speed crashes the fork caps at the top remain intact.

Me thinks he's undone it in order to get some money off or get a refund.

Sure that's your forks?
Sounds like the old bait and switch to me.

Or to get a replacement set for the cost of postage back to op.

Hi

Tend to agree with Itchy. I suspect unless the thread was very knackered (in which case you would probably have had the cap fly off and the spring pop out while riding the bike before breaking it for spares). That fork cap is steel so unlikely the threads would strip from a bit of bumping around in the post.

Doubt that holding the fork and beating the end on a concrete floor I could manage to get the cap to pop off.

All the best

Keith

Ok guys asked for more photos of the entire item and asked if hes messed with it.
It was sold via ebay, what options do I actually have?

I know ebay will refund and leave me out of pocket regardless.

You can request to PayPal dispute that if he sends them back you can refund but never receive them, or you inspect them and report them as not your previous property, but where that will take you, idk.

Good luck tho.

It doesn't look good tho.

I know its not good,
last time I sold something I had messages of proof and it couldnt be any more clear cut but they sided with the buyer, in the end it took an angry letter with all the proof to the CEO in order to get a refund.
So proving he was swapped items is going to be difficult.

What happens if he took it apart and as such it is no longer in the same condition I sent it in, a shop wouldn't take it back.

Paypal/eBay WILL fuck you over. They always side with the buyer.

I'd say continue arguing with the buyer to show how ridiculous his plan is and hope to God he doesn't actually open a case.

They don't always side with the buyer, I have sold stuff and been successful with a dispute.

PayPal & eBay don't always side with the buyer, as a seller I've won various disputes. Take quite a bit of time and effort cos you've got to keep the conversation going with the buyer long enough for them to slip up by contradicting what they said in an earlier message or something else that means they're trying to abuse the money back guarantee.

You're not arguing with them, you're discussing the problem and trying to help them. Wink

If the top of the fork has popped off then presumably the threads are damaged, ask for photos of the threads. I'd steal Keith's sentence that says "That fork cap is steel so unlikely the threads would strip from a bit of bumping around in the post."

You can also ask the buyer if when signing for the parcel if they made a note on the couriers paperwork that the package was significantly damaged?

Tell him you'll come and collect and you'll bring your UV lamp so as to check the markings you made before you posted them off.
