Hi All

I am planning a tour of Europe, my first tour. I have two weeks at the end of August and want to cram as many countries in as possible whilst still been able to kick back, take in sites and enjoy the trip.

Does anyone know where I can find routes, suggestions or 'off the beaten track' sites to visit?

Regards

Dan

Buy a Michellin Europe map, look for routes marked in green.

These are usually nice scenic routes.

Read previous riders tour write ups.

Heh you can follow me if you want if you can move that to the start of Aug.

My suggestions are make day 1 a big one, as Northern France, Belgium, Holland, Brussels are rather boring. Burn off as many miles as you can to get to the interesting bits and spend more time in them.

The interesting bits are Switzerland, Southern Germany, South of Dijon and the entire Alps area, Northern Italy and some of Austria.

Also the French and Spanish Pyranees

Also, I am probably going alone. Not sure whether that makes a difference but oh hum. Smile

Thanks Itchy. Following someone sounds fun. Do you plan on a two week jaunt?

It does, touring alone gives you more freedom and choices. You lose the safety of others if you crash or break down somewhere remote.

However I've always found somebody to ride with when I get there, even in Siberia I found people to ride with. So maybe stick to some of the popular biker routes like the N85/castellane and see which direction people are going in.

I tend to travel unplanned though, so far my trek in August is get to Calais head south East and get to Dijon where the good roads start. Play around the Alps then go along the coast to the Spanish mountains, then double back inland through the gorges.

Getting the overnight ferry after work on Friday I did Holland > Germany (Nurburgring) > Switzerland (St Bernard Pass) > Italy > France (via Monaco) > Spain. Then spent some time in spain. Those countries were done at one day per country, but could have easily spread it out.

I was on my own and liked the freedom to do what I pleased and to wild camp where I pleased.

Hackenburg Fort its a little gem I d never heard of until I went on a BCF tour.
Fantastic place and great roads to ride getting there, also its on the borders of several contries. So you can easily add Luxembourg and Germany to your list all within a short distance from this French Fort Thumbs Up
