Hello everyone Smile

thought I would tell you a little story from my holidays in Salou. (if you want to go straight to the injury then skip this paragraph!) So, everything was going well! Me and my sister landed on Sunday (6th June) and had a chill out day by the pool and shopping. Monday came and we went on a catamaran and jet ski. Tuesday was a day at Portaventura and if I am being honest I went on four rides: the Shambala, Dragon Kahn, tea pots and the pirate ship! We basically paid to queue up in the heat for the sake of a few rides that lasted a minute (if that!). I hated it, but my sister really enjoyed it so it made the day worth while. We went to the waterpark on the Wednesday (We were going to get a 2 day pass but it wasn't much dearer cheaper for a 3 day pass). We both loved the water park, it was definitely my favourite out of the 2!

Then Thursday came! We booked a 2 hour buggy excursion in the afternoon and went go karting in the morning. Go Karting was awesome, not gonna lie, I bossed it.

https://www.mixiricaverde.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Fuck-Yeah-meme.jpg

We then went on a 2 hour buggy ride. I was driving and my sister was passenger. The ride was awesome, the tour guide (he was in a buggy infront) took us around Costa Dorado and stopped at 2 locations where the views were spectacular. We then drove back and the tour guide asked if I wanted a go on his (his buggy, get your minds out of the gutter!). Of course I said yes! who wouldn't?!

so I was driving it around the dirt track, although I have never drove a rally car I could imagine it would have handled the same (but obviously this was slower). So I was skidding around the corner and was actually loving life. I then decided I needed to do the next lap even faster. First corner was fine and got to the fourth and next thing I know I am rolling over with my arm grabbing the role cage (worst thing to do)

https://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/656/644/c14.jpg

so I am looking up and next thing the buggy smashes against the floor (on its roof) and decided to smash against my arm. It then carried on rolling and ended up landing on its roof. I am stuck. Upside down. In a bucket seat. With my arm/ wrist in agony, my vision went blurry and my energy had deserted me. The guy then unclipped the belt and I fell like a bag of shite on the floor. Went to hospital he took my sister to get the E11 card. In the meantime all I got was 2 nurses looking at my arm as if to say "that is forked" I then had to ask for pain relief.

Here is a picture from about 5 minutes after it happened.

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/arm1_zps6c527cb7.jpg

Had 2 x-rays and although the nurses were certain it was broke it actually isn't and still put it in this:

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/arm2_zps49d3a300.jpg

went to hospital on the Sunday when I arrived home as it is still painful and I was convinced something is broken. They x-rayed it again and no breaks Thumbs Up . But they put it in a cast as they are worried about the scaphoid. This is what it looked like without the cast (this was yesterday):

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/arm4_zps9beed777.jpg

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/arm3_zps4b395c87.jpg

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/arm6_zps716b5be2.jpg

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/arm5_zpsab3ddf65.jpg

and here are 2 pictures from the 2 hour trip:

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/bugy2_zps3462394f.jpg

https://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/DottyDuck/buggy_zpsf37401bf.jpg

So yeah, not as bad as other people's injuries that have been posted on here but found it amusing that I have a worse injury while in a cage then when I am on 2 wheels! Laughing

And before anyone asks:

No, I am not sharing pics of my sister
the frame wasn't bent (although it probably is after it happened)
inb4 poor obv
and lastly, yes, my driving is clearly shit

Laughing

I will update next Tuesday as I am going to the fracture clinic again to check my wrist!

hopefully it will be good news Smile

aye, on an open top buggy of any kind you should not grab the cage.

Two places to grab:

the bottom of the steering wheel, holding it still as though you're steering but with your thumbs tucked alongside your fingers (wheel can't kick and brake thumbs)

or better still, grab the safety harness (presuming there is a strap over each shoulder) and hang on.

On the plus side, your in Salou! It's a lot better than Cambrills, but how can ya not like portaventura? Universal studios, baby!

Ok, so the cooling fans when you queue up for the rides are as crap as 1 revolution per minute....or they may as well be.

Awwww, I miss Salou!

Have to visit it now, when I pass through in a couple weeks.

GWS Dotty!

@Daffyd- I wish the guy had told me that before I drove it, in the off chance that it may happen. If he did I may have reacted differently!

@ws4936- Thanks for the GWS Smile no, I am not in Salou, I came back on Sunday. I must admit, it is much better than Cambrilles however I did go jet skiing there and went on the catamaran, so it isn't all bad Razz .

@Cansa- Of course it isn't Shocked Laughing

@bugeye_bob- Of course! 4 wheels are meant to be safer!

@bikertomm- The guy was really good about it, he took me to the hospital, my sister from the hospital to the hotel (about a 50 minute round trip) and then dropped us back off after waiting for me. I asked how his buggy is and he kept apologising. I got the impression the buggy was fine, after all, I am sure they are made for them sort of things lol. He didn't charge me anything for damage and paid for my prescription. I get the impression he will be getting an arse kicking from his boss as his buggy seemed much better than the one I was driving so maybe I shouldn't have been in it! :O

@JFK- sorry to hear about your friend, I have a feeling mine will be a complete ball ache. Atm it feels as if someone is pulling my wrist away from me while another person is pulling my forearm the opposite way. What sort of pain is she in? does she still get pain with it being months after?

You aren't aware of 'the' BCF accident of 2004?

Most of us aren't. Even by the time I became a member it was alluded to but never outright mentioned, it was something used as a them and us scenario. bit like Vietnam, 'you weren't there, you couldn't know man'.

Quite likely it was the formative notion that caused the Reading Clique furore.

PASSENGERS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER CAR CRASH

10:30 - 05 April 2004

Five people were hurt in a two-car accident which happened after a vehicle's
tyre blew out.

The collision, between a blue Peugeot 306 and a green Peugeot 406, happened
at around 5pm yesterday on the A158 at Sudbrooke.

Police believe that the Peugeot 306, which was towing a trailer with two
motorcycles on it, had a tyre blowout just before the crash.

Two passengers travelling in the 306 - a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old
man who are both from Reading in Berkshire - suffered multiple injuries and
are in intensive care at Lincoln County Hospital.

The driver of the 306, a 24-year-old man who is also from Reading, was
treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The 53-year-old male driver of the 406, who is from Mansfield in
Nottinghamshire, received minor cuts in the crash.

His wife is being treated for chest injuries at Lincoln County Hospital. Her
condition is not thought to be serious.

Anyone who saw the accident can call Lincolnshire Police on (01522) 882222.

There was a big thread on BCF but it's gone walkies. Archive.org has got the first page.

Despite what the above article says, the crash didn't happen due to a tyre blowing out and the cause of the accident is unknown. One of the trailer tyres was seriously fucked according to the plod report but also according to them was not the cause of the accident.

Apparently the tyre must have been fucked when we left Reading but it wasn't, the pictures of it post accident show that it was deflated and that it was worn right down to the tyre carcass with strands of the carcass sticking out, however when they re-inflated the tyre it held air. According to the police, the tyre damage wasn't caused in the crash.

The day before we left, the tyre pressures were checked and anything obviously wrong with the condition of the tyres would have been noticed. The pressures were checked again on the morning before we left as I thought they looked like they'd gone down a bit overnight but when checked the pressures were fine.

Crashing at speed off road ain't nice in a car, least on a bike you can jump off to escape or at least not be crushed (still dangerous but if I was to crash off road would rather be on a bike than a car personally). Don't worry about it though crashing is natural in the environment especially as those buggies look prone to rolling, GWS Thumbs Up.

Least you didn't end up like this guy at Galloway Forest Park last month, not reassuring to see when your flying around the bend at 60 odd mph on crap tyres I can tell you Sick

Yes it was pretty bad. I actually checked the tyres over before they left and they seemed perfectly OK. I even asked G if he'd checked the tyre pressures and he had.

I don't think I'll ever forget seeing the car in the state it was in, with blood on it and all sorts. The police shouldn't have ever let us get near it...
