I have a bunch of MP4's that I want to edit into a commercial type demo video.

Which video editing software should I go for?

I want to be able to cut these into one finished video.
I want to be able to mute the audio and dub over the top.
I want to have on screen text and ideally some other basic visualisations.

Cheers.

Thumbs Up Karma

Pinnacle is pretty good, quite easy to use and I think will cater for your needs. Haven't used it massively myself, but seen some friend's work with it and it seemed good. But even for my basic use of it, it was simple to use without having much knowledge about this sort of thing or reading loads of instructions.

Not sure what version I have, probably whatever was available on pirate bay at the time...

You didn't say Windows or Mac.

Windows

- Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

Mac

- Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

- Final Cut Pro 7

- Final Cut Pro X (bit easier to learn and intuitive and decent built in visualisations).

Windows Live Moviemaker will do all that (and more) and is free. It's a bit basic if you want to do more, but for a one-off project it should be OK.

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 12.... it's more powerful and consequently more fiddly, but pretty powerful (for a cut-back noobs version).

Expect movie maker to lock up once you start doing larger files. Could just be my laptop, but other programs don't have an issue using the files that cause movie maker to shit its self.

I have googled your suggestions and tried CyberLink Power Director. Really easy to get into but still don't know how to do everything. Everything so far has been a doddle. Thumbs Up

Adobe premiere is about as good as it gets (also on torrents Angelic )
It takes some learning but loads of help online and youtube.

My previous laptop came with power director pre-installed, it s good for basic stuff but fell down at final rendering with nowhere near the control you get with Premiere.
However more recent versions can probably do better, my version wasn't really able to deal with 1080p but then neither was the laptop!
