Hi Guys,

I have had a call from someone interested in my bike and he wanted the VIN number so he could run a full check.

Is it safe to give this up if you don't know the guy?

Can they do anything negative with it ?

Is your bike actively for sale or is it a 'cold' call? Wink

Not sure about 'other service providers', but HPI use the VIN on a proper check...

If someone had the VIN, engine number and registration it would make cloning a bit easier, but there are other ways of finding this out if you're really into it.

I am selling mine and someone called me .

I know but you normally give that out once you have seen the guy etc.

Can that information be used for anything which can have a detrimental impact ?

btw how can you get VIN if either the owner or v5 doesn't tell you ?
Probably impossible.

VIN, enginge number and registration could be noted down by anyone when you park your bike in a public place.

Without the numbers they can't do an HPI check so I'd give them the details if it were me.

well when I used confused.com it did a full hpi check and had a box to input the vin number which once entered it would have said it matched their record.

that was it .

it still did the hpi by just providing the number plate
