The serious combat types. Anyone flying CloD or BoS online? We're recruiting for JG3 (Luftwaffe), regular wed and sun nights from 7pm. It's proper team-work with medals and shit and long-term (until all the Russians are dead at least). You need the proper hardware too, but if you're a dedicated simmer you'll already have that.

Don't be shy. Cool

War Thunder at the moment, used to fly MS Flight simulators and Combat flight simulator. But, my Saitek cyborg is not as sharp as it used to be, so I use xbox 360 controller in stead, which is alright in the WT but useless in the MS games. I mean, it is not perfect but it is bearable. I hate mouse pilots though, it's just not fair to others that use analog controllers. Thumbs Down

I am going to look at the games you've listed.

Once upon a time I did but its so expensive to have a decent set up these days. i'll stick with BF3 and 4 for my online death kicks. Wish I could though as F sims always fascinated me.

Can build a system for the price of an XB1/PS4 that outperforms them both.

Would you mind telling us how? Thinking

PS4 is around 340 pounds. The Xbox one is pretty much the same without the kinect.

FX-6350
GTX660
8GB Ram

£130 for CPU and motherboard
£120 for GTX660
£60 for 8GB Ram

£310 for a system that runs comparable games better and at higher resolutions.

No PSU, no PC case, no hard drive, no dvd/blu-ray drive, no keyboard, no mouse and no joystick and pedals. What am I missing here? Confused

EDIT: We can cut the joystick and pedals, I only put that there because Hetzer talked about flying. Also, I did not put there speakers, nor Tv (LCD panel), because that's what you've already got to have if you want to use PS4/Xbox one.

Or is this the setup that people think you need for PC Gaming?

No Optical drive required, I assume most people have a case they can re-use same for a hdd if keeping costs down, add another £70 on top for psu. And you have a far better performing system than a "next-gen" console that just about does 720p at 30fps Laughing

Nothing really to add as my PC was with Noah on his Ark, but...

Talk of flight sim makes smile and think at least you don't have to practice landing.
Or is that only if you're of a certain religion? Wink

...what, too soon? Very Happy

My limit is always 450 pounds, we're talking about PC case, PSU, CPU, MB, GPU, RAM, HDD. I also had to buy an optical drive, sata came to my life 7 years ago. I always give the old PC to my dad, so I can't just take it apart. He just needs something to handle music, office and internet.

I built my current PC 7 years ago, for 450 pounds, the only thing I changed was the GPU after 5 years of use. Many games are still playable at at least 30 fps at 1080p and high settings, unfortunately, lately it's only 720p, medium settings because some games just cause my system crash. If you know War Thunder, I play that at max settings, 720p which allows me to play at around 35 fps in Tank mode. When flying I get over 70 fps (the lowest is about 50 and the highest slightly over 100) with that settings and in fact I used to play it at 1080p, film settings at 50+fps. The Tank mode is very demanding, so I had to set the settings a bit lower.

This is what people think you need for PC Gaming.

Would love to get back into flight sims again. The closest I can afford time and money to now is X-Plane on the iPad.

Extra £30 for a case, brings total cost to £410, £40 under your budget and will run new release games on High/Ultra at 60fps

who doesnt run dual monitors, while gaming you can keep on eye on temps if you overclocked the thing to within an inch of its life, or for coding and hardware development, circuit diagram, data sheet, web site for data, coding can be spread out which makes it alot easier to see the info you are looking for.

howver i am a bit on the poor side, main screen is 1920x1200 24" with 5ms response, the other a 1680x1050 21" 5ms response. then there is the HTPC which runs a crappy 15" for sound card equliser etc etc, and the then the standard 1080p TV. the server amy well loose its 19" screen soon (it runs just fine headless) to go onto the rig on the test bench which is currently running a single 20" screen.

My main rig is well over due for an overhaul though, its still running nomral raid 0 HDDs and a 4890, 8GB PC6400 ddr2, phenom II @4GHz - i am a little achamed at this point, it could really do with some SSDs and it would speed things up really nicely

Three screens is where it's at for gaming, two screens is annoying cos the bevels are right in the middle of what you're looking at.

Use MSI Afterburner on screen display for keeping an eye on your temps and stuff if you've been overclocking, but once your overclock is stable and you've done sufficient stress testing you don't really need to worry about temperatures. If it gets to hot then it'll throttle itself.

Me, I replaced my dual screens with a single 32" screen about 3 years, and wouldn't go back for home use.

I use dual screens at work, but not at home

Just started playing DCS World, bought the P-51D for it and just ordered the Black Shark heli and the A-10C from a german site which had it cheap.

The game is incredible. Download the base game for nothing, pay for aircraft you want to fly. The detail involved is astonishing, the flight model is remarkable and the modding community is active.

I f'king love flight sims, especially combat ones. I used to be in a Combat Flight Sim clan many moons ago - which became an IL2 Sturmovik clan. Haven't played for years now though, I built my current gaming rig in 2006 (dual cards, SLi yo) so it can't run anything new (coupled with a 10-year old Microsoft Force Feedback stick) - it's just used for home office stuff nowadays.
I really ought to think about building up a new one and trying some of the modern games, I bet they're f'king amazing now.
