Speed limit for lorries will be increased by 10mph on delimited single carriageways and may be increased similarly for dual carriageway roads.

They never stuck to the limit anyway so dont think it'll make a blind bit of difference.

What they need to do is raise the NSL limit to 70mph for vans like my 280 SWB Transit so I dont risk 3 points every time I forget and think I'm in the Megane.

That's one of the very reasons I went for a crew cab vito - just light enough and with the extra seats you can do 70mph on an A road.

Of course, most of the time these days I'm doing 56mph anyway to save on fuel Sad - but it's nice to have the option.

Mines almost ready to re-register as a Motor-caravan, Just need a side window cutting in, and an inverter capable of juicing up the microwave.

Speed limit goes up, Insurance comes down. Razz

Always amused that you can have a 30t rigid bodied camper and it have higher speed limits than many small vans.

Average speed cameras. The A9 has had them put in, and the limit upped to 50 for wagons, and about time too. It's essentially an admission that the 40 limit was utterly ridiculous.

Yes.

Good stuff. I'm all for raising speed limits.

What this does probably mean though is lorries will spend more on fuel and delivery prices go up.

No way, lorries have been limited for maximum mpg for years.

Perhaps this will mean no more 50 limits being put in to speed up HGVs?

Either my speedo is broken or all the drivers north of Sheffield yesterday could not work out what how fast to go through the NSL average speed cameras and were dawdling through at about 40.

OK, so Chelsea tractors whatever you are supposed to call reault scenic, picasso lemons and vauxhell meriva type things have high driving positions, fuck all acceleration and drivers wearing the same sleep-deprived expression that one might associate with international haulage, but I think they still count as category B cars.

not sure how good is the idea in fact I am sure it will lead to more casualties

there is a big difference in a single-carriage ways around the country I have seen rural roads with very optimistic 50 signs where you cannot even drive a car safely at this speed what about a truck I mean this type of roads: https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02984/lorry_2984161b.jpg

The reason supposedly is "Ministers will today announce that they are ending the "antiquated" speed limit restriction on single-carriageway roads to bring Britain into line with other European countries. "

In fact in many EU countries the speed limit for lorries is 70 kmh about 43 mph

The roads on the way to the BCF BBQ were considerably tighter than the one you pictured.

My 7.5 lorry is legally allowed to do 50mph on them.
Oddly enough, I wasn't Smile.

I think you misunderstand what is meant by "single carriageway".

Single carriageway means any road where there is no physical divide between traffic moving in opposite directions. That covers many major A roads.

I suspect you took it to mean "single track" where there is only one lane.

Plus no-one in their right mind would do 60mph or 50mph if in a HGV down a road like that one pictured.
