Hello Guy's

A little about me, I would describe myself as a novice rider as I have very little motorcycling experience, in fact I only started riding a motorcycle February 2014 but I love it. Surprisingly my new found love for motorcycles has crept into almost every aspect of my life, as if I am not riding I am normally tinkering.

And it's this tinkering that has led me to posting this thread.

I have purchased aXJ6 as a project bike, with very little mechanical knowledge I have decided to convert a1992 Diversion XJ6 into a naked streetfighter. Now given the state of the bike when I received it, the bike needed a complete strip down to the frame, a degunk, which is about where I am now.

The bike is stripped and I have ground down the fairing mount points at the front, I was planning to paint the parts myself, but have been looking at powder-coat options as I wasn't aware you could powder-coat different colours. I said i was a novice Smile

The videos on my you tube channel shows the progress also provides what I hope to do with the bike.

Given my complete novice status, there are bound to be parts where i get stuck or just need a second opinion, which is where hopefully you guys come in. Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the membership, take care and ride safe..

Be careful using the word 'streetfighter'. It's not going to be a streetfighter, just a naked Diversion.

Still, it should be a relatively good 'diversion' from your normal life! Wink

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Ah I recognise that bike hello mate.

"Streetfighter" is one of those funny terms that has a different meaning to different people, some its all about the style, some its about a combination of style and function and some its all about function over form.

I guess MarJay's idea of a streetfighter is more based on function than form (I'm thinking turbo blade stripped down to bare essentials) whereas yours is more of a styling exercise which is more reasonable for you being as it will be your first big bike.

As far as I am concerned anyone can call their bike whatever the hell they want as long as its got two wheels and they enjoy it, I'm not a fan of scooters or cruisers with tassles, chrome and airbrushing but if that's what does it for someone fair enough.

To me, a streetfighter is a bike that once had a fight with the street and lost but is now making a comeback for a rematch.

Like Rocky II, I guess.

Taking the fairing off of a bike that already had no fairing is not a Streetfighter, it's an unfaired bike.

A streetfighter has to have a performance element to it, else it's pretty pointless. What you're actually talking about building is just a bike.
