Quite local, what kind of ride are you looking for? There's a few of us get out regularly but we tend to be irresponsible and kittens can get hurt.

I've never been that fond of kittens anyway!

I don't mind what riding, I don't exactly hang about, but I'm not as fast/daft as some!

How local?

Howden isn't too far if it's where I'm thinking. Could be good for a ride out.

Yeah I'm york. Do you get up seaways at all? I'm more of a potterer than a progress maker, but me and fifteen15 have fun. He's in bev. He's quicker and smoother than me and has the faster bike - gsxr 600. I've only got twins - 500 and 650. Plus also I've got a speed awareness in hull come tuesday so I've had to think about the old throttley stuff more lately. But I'd definitely be up for it.

You need to get in the northern forum - not because it's busy or owt, but just cos that's where the york people will post. Although thinking about it, and iirc, you've got to get some karma up first before you can access the local boards. There are about ten semi-regs from round about, but I've not met 'em. Was going to put out some pms and try and organise a scarborough bimble from fridaythorpe this summer but here we are in august and I've done nowt. So yeah - I just know fifteen15, and I'll vouch for him any day. Bloody good lad. But his shifts are awkward so haven't seen as much of him lately. Sad

Hey trevor thanks for the reply. Ive requested to join the northern forum so we'll see how that goes. I'd be up for a ride sometime, like I say, I don't mind getting a move on, but by no means like some do.
im on a hornet 600 so probably wouldn't be too badly matched. Maybe we could organise something.

Also, I know where seaways is, I take a ride to brid quite often, though never stopped there.

Are you seaways or squires? Always seems it's one or t'other up this neck. I prefer the latter really cos there're more bikes to look at, but it's just that bit further. And the ride from where I am is pretty pants too. But having said that I'm there most saturdays. Seaways I do more of in the week - shuts at four mind you, which is crap. Oh and then there's fimber, down by the roundabout on way to sledmere. Not as busy down there, but good for the odd bit of old brit iron.

To be honest, I know of a few of the cafes and I probably should stop for a chat, but id rather be out riding than sat looking at bikes.

Haha yeah me too, me too. I generally just get a cuppa, say eh up to whoever is there who I know, then crack on. There are some good roads up on the wolds, but there are also a fair few patrols too and plenty have been done for 60 odd in a 60 limit. Can be pretty harsh.

Not sure where the wolds are. When I go for a ride, I usually go to brid, Scarborough, or down the a19 past Selby. I think I've been lucky so far as I don't think I've even caught a patrol

other place I go is wetherby, but thats with the missus on the back, and the way she makes me ride a patrol wouldn't be a prob!

maybe next time you're out you could give me a bell, show me where you go.

Me neither. But I tend to think of there being the vale, and - conversely - the wolds. If you go through stamford bridge, and top garrowby hill, that's wolds country. You've got your rolling hills (e.g. wet wang to bev), and then there're the tight, mad technical back lanes through awesome steep sided valleys - thixendale, givendale, millington dale, etc. Whereas down in the vale it's comparatively flat and featureless with lots of straight line roman roads all the way from the foot at e.g. mkt weighton, most of the way to leeds.

There's fun in all of it, even down in the vale on some roads.

If you see a white R1 being very sensible then it's probably me. Wink

I'm a bit north of Leeds and so far haven't been east of York - and after what Trevor said about patrols I don't think I'll be bothering. Shifty

Yup, I do that one quite often, although last time it wasn't much fun because they'd been surface-dressing the roads on the way to Burnsall. The bit from Burnsall to Grassington is my favorite, although I prefer to do it on my WR250X so I can see over the walls. Laughing

If you're going Otley / Ilkley way, have you tried going along the other side of the river via Askwith?

One for Trevor: if you want more bikes to ogle then the Sun Inn near Norwood has meet-ups on Wednesday evenings and Sundays. Not really my thing, so you're safe from finding me there. Wink

I haven't tried going near askwith, I don't ride over that way often.

I'm always up for trying new routes, but I was mostly looking for people to have a ride with. I love going out on my own, but sometimes its nice to have someone to ride with

I'm getting better - but still need to break out of the habit of riding the same routes. Also, some of the guys I've been out with more recently have an absolutely vast knowledge of the roads york side of leeds, over to scarborough, whitby, all the moors round helmsley, over to knaresborough, rippon, up to layburn, down into the eastern side of the dales, and god knows where else. Close knowledge of all those roads, and I'm just back marking as they burn off over the horizon. Credit to 'em they do pull in and wait for me when they get too far ahead. But this has surely to be some of the best biking country in england. Has to be.
