MOT... Mirrors & indicator question... sorry!!

I've got a SV650 and it's got new smaller indicators on it (UK road legal) and a tail tidy... the issue is with the normal plate size the indicators on the tail tidy were being hidden somewhat by the plate....

Now I've got them to stick out around 1.5cm either side but I was wondering is there an actual figure they need to be visible by to pass from certain angles?


Second lamo question is I've only got 1 bar mirror fitted as the other was damaged and I just remembered about it or else I'd have 2 fitted... (I dont ride it much)...

Do you need both mirrors for a MOT on a 56 plate bike? Will it pass with 1 or no mirrors?

My XT600E passed with only the right mirror YMMV that was in 2009 though.

With my SV the indicators were flush with the plate, no issues were raised other than yer might want to move those out a bit.

The issue was due to the tail tidy it had no number plate light.

This was rectified by fitting these:

Easy splice into the SV tail light wire a green and brown one IIRC.

The tail tidy appears to have a light actually so thats cool... I'll swap the mirror onto the right handlebar then... my googling says motorcycles dont need mirrors for a mot... so fingers crossed and hopefully they don't dislike the placement of the indicators too much!

You don't need mirrors for MOT. Indicators have to be visible from behind and the same colour AFAIK, I don't think there's a size requirement. If you're worried about getting failed for a partially-obscured indicator, tape up the obscured part.

I have a "MOT" rear end, numberplate, reflector, indicators which fits on quickly for one day a year

AFAIK indicators need to be a set amount apart, something like 24cm, but don't hold me to that

SVA rules say the front indicators must be a minimum of 240mm apart and the rear 180mm but VOSA MOT manual states "The precise position and angle of visibility of direction indicators are not part of this inspection".
