Ok so I think this has gone on my vtr.
Stopped for piss at side of the road and the bike struggled to start with flat battery symptoms. A few miles later every time the bike used any lights (brake/indicators) the clocks would die.
Got home, turned ignition off and then on and nothing.
So dead battery and not charging. Battery doesn't seem to be distorted etc as if it's boiled.
Havnt checked anything as yet but not even sure how you can check the reg/rec?
I've seen it mentioned before about fitting a kawasaki one instead? Is the Honda one worth twice the pattern ones? (Assuming they are both finned versions)

Charge battery well and leave for an hour or so
Multi meter / volt meter across battery
Should read over 12v charged good 12.5
Start bike (if it won't the battery is dead)
at idle the volt should be about /slightly higher than before
Rev bike volts should rise to 14/15v less than 13.8 or more than 15.5 the rec/reg and / or the stator is screwed
To check the stator disconnect the three wires yellow or white from rec/reg
Very high resistance from any one to earth
somewhere about 0.5 to 1.5 homes between all three possible pairs
No exact readings given as meters accuracy and bikes vary ____________________ Dave
