New question.

I have a load of DVDs I want to put onto a hard drive without converting to avi.

Does xbmc support ISO and vob files?

In addition to my "yep" above,

The r-pi will easily play DVD iso files over the network without any headaches.

I do believe it runs from the USB stick once booted - such that I could remove the SD card once in XBMC and it would be fine.

It runs very smoothly with regards to menu scrolling and page transitions. I added in the memory and over-scan changes you listed, have streamed HD content and so far so good, will need a larger test sample to confirm but so far it does seem to have solved the stop/start problem Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

No need for a dirty hack, do it the right way and put a shortcut to xbmc into the startup folder within the start menu.

To enable automatic logon, follow these steps:

Start Regedt32.exe, and then locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Using your account name and password, double-click the DefaultUserName entry, type your user name, and then click OK.
Double-click the DefaultDomainName entry, type the domain name, and then click OK.
Double-click the DefaultPassword entry, type your password, and then click OK.

Note If the DefaultPassword value does not exist, follow these steps:
Click Add Value on the Edit menu.
In the Value Name box, type DefaultPassword, and then click REG_SZ for the Data Type
Type your password in the String box, and then save your changes.
Also, if no DefaultPassword string is specified, Windows automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon key from 1 (true) to 0 (false), which disables the AutoAdminLogon feature.
Click Add Value on the Edit menu, enter AutoAdminLogon in the Value Name box, and then click REG_SZ for the Data Type.
Type 1 in the String box, and then save your changes.
Quit Regedt32.
Click Start, click Shutdown, and then click OK to turn off your computer.
Restart your computer and Windows. You are now able to log on automatically.

Sorry no I meant I already have it skinned and booting into XBMC without loading Explorer and the task bar etc coming up, I just want to add a stable implementation of NFS to it to replace SMB.

Why SMB is a pretty quick and stable protocol.

Where are you streaming from?

The fact that your 1st question has already been answered, and your 2nd question has already been asked leads me to think that you haven't read this thread.

Anyway I was hoping to get NFS support on my HTPC (it's fairly fast, SSD to boot/run from, gigabit ethernet and one 4TB HDD by eSATA, another 2TB by USB2) running Windows 7

Use the guide i linked to in my previous post about how to use Hanewin NFS.
I also included a link to download it.

Disable a/v before downloading for obvious reasons.
Run everything as admin.

My NAS doesnt have NFS built-in so I have mounted the NAS directories I use for the pi onto my server (NobCat) and share them from there.
Below is my config file for the NFS server, the program calls it a "Exports file"

Code:
\\NippleBiscuits\XBMC\Telly -public -name:TV
\\NippleBiscuits\XBMC\Video -public -name:Vids
\\NippleBiscuits\XBMC\Music2 -public -name:Music
\\NippleBiscuits\XBMC\Pics -public -name:Pics
E:\Films -public -name:FilmsE
i:\films -public -name:Films

# exports example
# C:\ftp -range 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.10
# c:\public -public -readonly
# c:\tools -readonly 192.168.1.4

My setup goes against the grain a little..

I have an old PC running freeNAS (on a USB stick) This is what I use to download and store files.

Then I have a Jailbroken Apple TV 2 running XBMC. (Atv3s are under £100 now)

I like the freeNAS as I can find torrent files and leave them in a specific folder and the server will download them meaning I can turn the PC/Laptop off.

I like using the Apple TV as it was free! and because I can still use it for Plex/iPlayer/Netflix/Browser etc.

My only issue is being able to get mash up to work (it's gives a repo error) I can and do use Icefilms for steaming which works well.

Mashup has a problem with github at the moment, they have been trying to sort it for the past 2 weeks.

As a slightly different option - I am running it on a Nexus 7 tablet with a Chromecast dongle in the back of my TV ( you have to change an xml file so that it uses Avia to play the video).

It also lets me use Showbox which is a lot more user friendly than XBMC and I've yet to have a dead link.
