At no point should you engage the services of a claims management company.
All they do is pass it off to a firm of solicitors whilst taking a percentage of any settlement as well as the solicitors.
Why not approach someone like White-Dalton or some other solicitors who advertise in the MCN? They preach that they are bikers who represent bikers!
Keep us posted! |

When I got rear ended it all went quite smoothly although, the driver admitted he was at fault.
My insurer paid me out (I'm fully comp.) and then claimed it all back from the other guys insurance. They sent a bloke out to examine the damage within a day or two, gave my local dealer the go ahead to do repairs (around £3,000) immediately. The only delay came because of Yamaha took weeks to send some of the fairings, as it's a 50th anniversary model/colours.
I claimed for new trousers, gloves and lid, didn't take the pi$$ with prices, they just asked what make they were and how much they cost as I didn't have the receipts and they paid up without any hassle straight away.
I also claimed for a hire bike, as it's my only means of transport. Again, I had no problem with this, just gave them the receipt and they coughed up.
The only part that took a bit of time was claiming for injuries but, that was largely due to being referred to a private consultant, who then had to request my medical notes from A&E who first had to have my written permission. Then I had to wait for an appointment from the consultant and for him to submit his report. This part of my pay out took around three months and was what I would call a reasonable amount, as I wasn't too badly hurt. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.

I got nudged from behind by a driver who skidded into me at a junction
He accepted fault at the scene but as I needed a courtesy vehicle I went insurance, talking to his insurance and informing my own.
they accepted responsibility but took their time sorting someone to come collect my bike so I took it to the chap I normally have it sorted by, he doesn't do bodywork just the mechanical side but was able to give an assessment of my bike's state.
"it's tatty but looked after, solid reliable mechanical condition and now with cracked bodywork £XXX to repair"
this info made the insurance company choose to just pay out allowing me to get it repaired / do the work myself (I'd mentioned the ability to get second hand panels in conversation with the insurance) and they didn't write it off.
a few weeks on my shoulder was giving me a lot of problems (had mentioned in initial conversation back / neck / shoulder pain and had been diagnosed with whiplash at A&E on the day of the incident) and have had physio paid for by the insurance company also.
I had a call a week or two about asking how things were, if physio was helping (it was) and told they'd be in touch in a week or two to see how i'm getting on and if injuries have settled down to hopefully finish settling the injury side of things. (my assumption is they want to see that I'm not going to be turning round and saying something else is wrong after they've settled) ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

Hmm, much hard sell from BLD swinton's bike claim manager people. According to them I'm stuck dealing with BLD managing the claim whoever sorts my bike.
Much hard sell with offers to not charge me the excess whilst liability is sorted and very vague promises of a hire bike and much "I'll just ask my manager" as I asked questions as to the potential of the hire bike costing ME money.
I've booked the bike in at my local independent to get it checked out for anything mechanical and/or structural that I didn't spot, that will likely be pocket change.
Vague guestimate maths:
2 indicator assemblies £40
1 rear indicator stem £10
Ankle shield thing that keeps right foot off of hot bits: £15 good condition used, maybe £30 new
Footpeg £It's a footpeg, they scrape once in a while
Brake pedal £20 or less used, can't find a new on online, probaly less than £50
Number plate £10ish for another flexible shatterproof one
Number plate bracket: fixable with hammer and paint, or probably under £20 to replace
Brake lever £10
Bar end weight £10
Small stuff above: Under £200. An hour or two's labour @ £30
Rear fender: Unbending and respraying should be less than £250. I can source a used one that will be mostly unbent for about £50 i think.
Scrapes on my exhaust: not sure if insurers will spring for a new one, genune parts are a full system only at £700ish + vat and fitting. A motad one might be £500 fitted.
Complications of restriction washers in *exhaust* will add much monies, should I offer to wait until december if that is to be messed with?
Am I in danger of BLD trying to write the bike off if I let them get anywhere near it? It's worth plenty to me as a running bike with all the little mechanical niggles sorted out, she runs well, starts first try and is now quite a dependable bike. ____________________ Bandit. does. everything. |

Yep. Engineer turned up, took a few photo's and left. You might be pleasantly surprised, my bike was valued at top dealer price (nearly a grand more than I paid). ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
