Doubt you'd make it 10 miles. Get recovered.

Get it recovered, I once ran a bike with low coolant, it the temp needle shot to the red zone within a mile.

If you run it without coolant it may seize, unlike aircooled bikes which have much bigger tolerances.

Seizing means a rebuild which starts at £300+ a recovery costs £50-£80 from a man with van type.

If you're insistant on riding it:-

Can you at least try wrapping everything in copious amounts of gaffer tape, then refilling with water, it might keep, at least some water in the system.
Switch off and coast down each and every downhill part of the journey, even the slightest incline.
Push it as far as you can!

Or :-
Joining AA/RAC, on the spot, might still be cheaper than the cost and ball ache of new head gasket, etc.
Call a recovery service, might not be as expensive as you think, at least get a, ball park figure.
Leave bike somewhere safe, or get a mate out to stay with bike while you get spares sorted.
Mate with a van would be ideal!

Unclear what / where it's broken. As said, picture(s) would help.
Where are you? Anywhere you can get some liquid metal to patch and some suitable replacement coolant?

Otherwise 10 miles is a long walk.
As said, try and recover. Costs and inconvenience outweigh costs to repair further damage.

I live in Newcastle Under Lyme but bike is in Stone staffs. I dont want to try and ride it but it is metal thats fractured, I will try and get the bike down to my workplace and wrap it in ptfe tape and refill it just to try and help it. but the metal body is whats fractured on the pipe, when I get home was going to try and solder/torch it. I hadnt thought of liq metal, there is 2 diy shops near to my work place.

Best option is as said, play safe, get it recovered
and fix it properly
Dont ride it without coolant

Desperate measures:
use an epoxy to seal the cracks
NOT Araldite etc that goes soft as shit over 60C.
JB Kwik sets in 20 minutes and cures in 4 hours and
may hold up for while if the casing is clean and dry
and depending on how you apply it/where and how its broken

If your bike is going to be secure at work, leave it there until you can order another casing and fit it at work!

If I had absolutely no other option, I'd thoroughly de-grease it and try to patch it with fuel tank repair putty (the stuff that comes in a block with two coloured halves you squeeze together).

A GPZ500s will go a very short distance with no coolant because there are some very minimal cooling vanes on the barrel but you run an extreme risk of blowing the head gasket.

The cover can generally be TIG welded back together. That cast-in pipe shape on the pump cover doesn't actually need to be there. You can weld in a flat "patch" of aluminium over the hole where it was.

Best to recover it.

There is also a high chance of finding bits of road/gravel inside the pump impellar chamber.

IMO (even though I suggested it) this would only be a temporary, last resort, exhausted all other recovery options, get you home very slowly fix. As said above best applied to clean dry metal and then patience while it cures (from experience it can take a while).

That said my temporary fix on brake calliper hanger (damaged after riding off with disc lock on Doh! ) got through at least one MOT and brakes worked ok before sourcing a replacement. It's that I just wouldn't trust it on something like a pump for too long.

Hope you get sorted Thumbs Up

If stuck for a degreaser out in the wilds try sourcing nail polish remover with acetone (as some don't have it). Local stores should carry it.

cooling vanes? I always thought those were for style rather than actual cooling, the air cooled bikes I've had had thin vanes and lots of them up and down the barrel.

If your stuck in Stone I can get you a secure place to keep it until you can sort a van to collect or pop and fetch parts to fix.

40 quid to join AA but that takes you to nearest garage. 95 quid if you want to be taken to a place of your choosing (home). Still cheaper than wrecking the engine and gets you a year coverage.

But in real life, I've lived with one with a blown head gasket which could and would piss the entire coolant content onto the road with no warning. It didn't seize despite several of these episodes where it had been ridden for ?? miles with no coolant in.

I also remember my mates one developing a leak in the bottom hose and totally emptying its coolant. It was so hot when we stopped there was a heat mirage coming off the engine. That and the fan being on is what alerted us to there being a problem. I have no idea how far along the run it lost the coolant and because it's at the top, the thermostat doesn't register the temperature increase once it's uncovered.

So remember that too. The temperature guage will not tell you it's overheating if you've lost a lot of coolant. The fan will come on though (seperate switch).

I have ordered a replacement pump and pipe and opted to have the bike recovered, in normal running its 10 miles home on Dual Carridgeways with a lot of roundabouts and traffic lights and on a hot day the engine is at boiling point when i get home and thats with everything fine. The bike is my only transport so cant risk it seizing. If It was less miles or a cold day I would risk it.

Thanks for the input and offers of help but it would cost me as much to get a van as having it recovered.

Expect that doesn't include immediate recovery.
