Just wondering, as I'm sure today on the motorway I saw a perlescent white pre-production Fiesta RS with a private registration.

I'm not too interested in hotted up Fiesta's, but There's a lot of speculation and denial that Ford will not build a current model Fiesta RS, and that magazines have been whipping up a storm about nothing?

Ford have a track record of doing things like this,

They used to, when building a new model, put the running gear in an old model and suddenly half of essex would be full of tatty looking previous gen Fords, or in the case of the original Fiesta, old Fiat's as they wanted to be sure of the fwd mechanicals before launching.

It's common for many manufacturers to test new parts such as engines/drivetrains/electrics in current guises.

Vauxhall had a habit of doing that where for the last 6 months of production the Corsa/Astra you were buying looked just like the ones from the last 5 years were actually completely new underneath with different engines and gearboxes, different ECUs and systems and they were running them in customer vehicles in a kind of beta release for want of a better explanation.

Prior to that though they do a lot of extensive testing, on private facilities such as Millbrook etc as well as on the public roads.

I'm pretty sure you can buy RS badges from Halfords. It's possible that it's just an ST that's been played with. My neighbour used to have an Audi S3 that he stuck an RS3 badge on, about four years before Audi actually released one. Pretty sure he just remapped it and stuck a bigger exhaust on.

I'm close to certain it wasn't an ST, which by the way seems to be a very popular new 14plate registration car, as I've seen plenty of new one's in just a few weeks.

It had the look of the garish mk2 Focus RS with those big flared out wings/wheelarch's, but no RS badge. It also had a very std looking small bore exhaust with a chrome finisher. I didn't see inside the car as it came past, but it just looked like a factory effort, even the wheels looked very similar to the Focus RS ones.
