Hi
I have just purchased a 2007 aprilia rs125 which won't rev over 8000 revs. I assume its some kind of rave valve issue, I've cleaned and polished the exhaust valve, I can see the solenoid kicking in at 2500 revs so that seems to be working but will it hell rev over 8000. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as its driving me mad which in turn is causing me to drive r lass mad, this is your chance to save a marriage here lol, thanks in advance

There's a filter mesh where the petrol pipe goes into the carb, check it's not got shit in it. Put a new plug in it. Drain the fuel and put some fresh stuff in if you don't know how long it is since it was filled up.

Diddnt they have a rev limiter on the CDI as part of the restriction?

Could be someones mucked up de-restricting it, just fitted the RAVE unit/powervalve setup and hoped for the best.

It does seem weird for the power valve to start working at 2,500rpm.

I know the NSRs / TZRs usually kick in around 7,000rpm.

Hi

Power valve should be open below 2500rpm, then closed until 7800rpm (although that varies on the power valve control unit) when it opens again properly. It opens at low revs so that around town it gets regularly opened and closed to hopefully stop it sticking. That said probably worth checking it really does open at ~7800rpm

The fuel filters might be the problem, but I would doubt it. If it were the filter (or a kinked fuel pipe, or blocked breather) restricting fuel flow the bike would probably be OK initially and get progressively worse.

Reed valve tend to cause most problems at low revs. But possible.

Does it stop revving at 8000rpm suddenly, or just peter out. Ie, can you still get it past 8000rpm in first gear (even if producing little power).

Is it standard? What carb does it have? What main jet does it have? Has anyone be chopping away at the cdi unit?

All the best

Keith
